Not getting exp

I am new and after 3 games I don't appear to have exp. After each round it awards me like 300 but I don't seem to have any, any ideas?

You earn XP on each ship you play. You can see the xp in the ship panel on the left side of the screen when you have it selected.

there is also 'Free EXP' which is 5% (for tech tree ships) of all 'ship exp' (what jokke said), try and save that.

but don't worry too much about this

This is a pretty good guide that touches on the bare basics.

The aiming portion might be confusing, and I'd also recommend using the "dynamic crosshairs" that you can switch to in the options menu under controls.

I was getting exp but now I got it in steam and every round i get 300 and i'v played 6 rounds and got 300 exp or more each time and i still can't research the 2nd tier ship an any of the tech trees

Do you have any screenshots of your issue? Might help us point out the relevant mechanic. Some things can be confusing at first. Also one tip, the wiki is a wealth of info on all sorts of game mechanics like XP. http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/World_of_Warships

You can only research the same nation tech tree of the ship you used to get the experience. However, there are some fun low level premiums you can buy and use straight away to spice things up if your bored. Some may come with a level 10 commander too??... ok i just looked at the premium shop... no level 2 premium comes with a commander at the moment. Level 3 Aurora does though!

Tech tree ships are also fun to play more while having maxed modules and upgrades, also helps to train your Commander more.
Popular low level ships: Umikaze, Longjiang, St Louis, Dresden, Wyoming, Orion.

Don't hurry too much to buy next ship, you would need to retrain Commander.

If it was a commander with specialization in premium ship(which is pretty pointless) - you would still have to retrain him when you place him on a tech tree ship.
