No, you cannot use a WG account with Steam. You can use Steam to start it as a non-Steam game in order to use the overlay tho.

That's funny because somehow warships had linked my standalone account from before, and when i first started up world of tanks(onsteam) it auto logged into that account. Then i clicked account management, which took me to the webpage that shows services your account is linked into, and STEAM was on there with the option to "unlink" steam. So i proceeded to unlink steam. Which is proof that you have capability to link wargaming accounts to steam, but you choose not to allow users to do it anymore. So only the option to unlink exists, but linking is non existent. Now when i startup wot on steam it asks me to create a new account instead of letting me login or link to a previous account. gg

It has never been possible. I can't say what happened to you and your situation, but I do know for certain that it never could be done. I was there from day 1 trying to figure out ways to do it as so many players wanted it :) There used to be a way to fake it, but not in quite some time. If you have a link to Steam already, it means you created an account here on Steam and linked it there, not the other way around.

Since you do have an account here, you could contact support and get that straightened out. I don't have any info on WoT though. I do know it has had problems coming over to Steam and kinda was getting hammered in the reviews because of it.

hmm lets see. The wargaming account i used for warships was DEFINITELY not started by steam because I used it on warships(standalone) AND world of tanks(STANDALONE) since before steam wot was released. So i have alot of time in tanks on that wargaming account since before steam release and when i FIRST STARTED UP WOT ON STEAM IT AUTOMATICALLY CONNECTED TO THAT ACCOUNT BECAUSE I HAD USED IT PREVIOUSLY IN WARSHIPS. PLEASE READ WHAT I AM SAYING I AM REPEATING MYSELF. BECAUSE YOU THINK LINKING IS NOT POSSIBLE. BUT THEY DID IT FOR ME AUTOMATICALLY.

if i started up steam world of tanks for the first time ever, from the steam store, than anything other than a "create new account" page means they linked my previous login to the new one. And the previous login was not ONLY used on world of warships, it had been used on world of tanks standalone. Sidenote: i had used my previous login on warships STANDALONE because the steam client of warships is laggier. So at some point in time they did allow my standalone wargaming account to login to my steam warships launcher, and this was long long before they release wot for steam. Also if that wargaming account WHICH WORKED ON STEAM WARSHIPS AND WAS USED ON STANDALONE WORLD OF TANKS, THAN WHY DID IT LINK ITSELF TO WORLD OF TANKS ON STEAM WHEN THEY CLEARLY SAY YOU CANT LINK WARGAMING ACCOUNTS? wHEN IT DID IT AUTOMATICALLY ON IT'S OWN?!? So they had associated my wargaming account to steam warships, and when world of tanks released on steam that automatically linked up to the tanks profile of that same account. THUS PROVING IT IS VERY POSSIBLE AND SIMPLE TO LINK ORIGINAL WARGAMING ACCOUNTS TO STEAM! BUT THEY DISABLED THAT ABILITY.

TBH I think you would be better luck with a support ticket than the forums, while Jack and others are very knowledgeable the devs may have some ability we are unaware of to revert the accidental change :)

You can try download War Of Tanks Blitz here on steam, use your email/password of you WG account and then link your steam by this game.

I'm sorry but this 1 way functionality has NEVER existed anywhere in the computer universe that i've used for the past 11 yrs of my life. if you lose players for this severe failure to meet standard requirements than its simply your own fault. Maybe dont give ppl to the OPTION TO UNLINK ACCOUNTS and you wouldnt receive so much hate? just a thought

Not seen any hate over that myself. Not in the 3 yrs I've been a moderator. When you do something silly, please don't assume everyone does that. The handful of people who have accidentally unlinked their account have generally been thankful for help provided.

I was complaining about this for a few years because I had an old Wargaming account that I wanted linked to my Steam account but they couldn't figure out how to merge purchases from the two accounts.

It seems like something they could write a program for. Look at the Steam account, find it's doubloons and purchase history, add them to the Wargaming account, delete the Steam account, then link the players Steam ID to the old Wargaming account.

At the least someone at Wargaming should be able to do this manually. But I kept asking and the best they ever gave me was "maybe this will be possible in the future"

I ended up deleting my old Wargaming account and then making a new one so I could link Steam to it.

Had a premium destroyer with an anime captain on the old one, plus an old world of tanks account. It's stupid I had to delete that to link Steam to a new one.

They should have figured this all out before releasing on Steam. Account issues like this are something predictable when you launch on a new platform.

I don't even look at the reviews - I don't see how using my immensely valuable time reading them will help me like or dislike the game more. (I'm not an employee, just a normal player who volunteered to help on the forum.)

Edit: I just checked, the're "Very positive" (81%).
Also I look at reviews so much I had no idea there was even a filter ;)

This gave me hope b/c you're right blitz does allow you to use wargaming account, and in the settings of that game they even have the option to "link to steam account" so i was very excited. But now when i try up world of tanks steam it says "You cant use this app to play; your steam account is already linked to a wargaming.net account (6015)" 😭

Sad man... so your Steam is linked to another account yea? In my case, Steam was unlinked for some reason. And I managed to link again with this way.
You can try to login with your steam in the WG website and unlink there. So maybe you can link again in this account with the game. Try :)
