Please WOW stop the aiming blockade
I just lost a battle because WOW blocked my aim a couple of times. When I wanted to aim at my target, my aim was pushed away and I could not hit. I have observed this numerous times over the years and I am now totally fed up. This is an awful way to make it IMPOSSIBLE to hit the enemy. The battles become a joke.

If you see such a thing it is a bug and you should send the replay to support. In my years of playing (since game was in beta) I've never seen it.

I suspect you are seeing an view anomaly that makes you think the guns are on target but they are not, so they won't fire. It happens when a ship is in close range and the gun turrets cannot keep trained on the enemy ship as it's moving by faster than they can turn. Consequently they won't fire. It most often happens with battleships as they have slow turrets, but there's a few other ships that I've seen this with as well.

Were you turning your ship at the time? Some ships have guns that turn slower than the ship can turn. This effect is magnified if you're up close.

If you're in a battleship and coming close to an enemy ship you need to kind of guess where their hull will be as it passes by you and point all your guns on a point based on your current bearing to get them to show green. Then you wait for the enemy ship to sail into that point and you cut loose just at the right second.

Unfortunately I can find lots of aiming tutorials on youtube but not a video that really highlights this.

Most of the tutorials press you into using gun lock. I never lock my guns on a enemy ship. Ever. I either fire manual or lock my guns on a bearing.

If all you do is lock your guns on an enemy ship you're going to run face-first into this issue.

I have observed this for many years now. There is no doubt in my mind. To dismiss it as a fantasy is just ridiculous.

Well it's a bit odd that in my many thousands of battles I've never seen it. Nor have I seen reports of it. As I suggested, why not submit a replay?

If you submit it here, anyone can view it and help figure out what the problem is.

I believe what that is is that you have your camera on the wrong set of guns, so when you fire once it jumps to your other set of guns which is what causes the camera to jolt like that

You miss out on a dispersion buff by not locking on. Think of it like an aim assist that helps you shoot at the target you're aiming at, although you can also use it to blind-fire nearby undetected targets as well. Thank the WG aiming system for this.

Are you playing French dreadnoughts by chance? They have terrible turret rotation and I frequently overturn them.

Otherwise, we can't really help you without a replay.

I wonder if this isn't a form of desync from the server? I have run into issues occasionally where the game refuses to lock on to any target and also the ship won't respond to movement commands (WASD key presses). Often it goes away if I come out of binoculars view and touch nothing on keyboard/mouse for a few seconds.

I also see where guns won't lock on after coming out of a sharp turn--this is probably the turret traverse/ship turn rate issue others are pointing out. It is a little annoying that you can't fire your guns even if they are loaded until the cursor locks on to something especially in "drive by" scenarios.

I have run in to something similar when playing DD but not more times then like 2 or 3.

I have run Into this a few times when you have two enemy ships close start aiming at one but you change your mind to the other ship but it stays locked on the other one for aim assist. Game can't tell Itself to quit aiming at the first target. not a game breaker just a pain some times.

I can try that see what happens most times Its In the heat of a battle . If you zoom out some times It lets you aim at the other ship If there real close . This game does not need a shooting assist really. I wish it was gone..

the game have auto aim. and you cant turn it off. enlarge the mini map and you will see a circle of where the game think you want to aim. that is where your shell will land. aim with that and you will not be guessing what the game is trying to do
