I actually complimented a CV player yesterday (gag!) for helping our team to win a match with some timely kills and good maneuvering at the end of the battle.
But yeah reports work if people report you for abusive chat instead of playing poorly and you talk back a bit when they tell you they think youre bad or something =D trust me im banned all the time.
I dont know what exactly low karma does but im sure it influence some algo or something.
It's such a weird system. Because what I did this last time was talk a lot of ♥♥♥♥ when everyone were happy and its going pretty good. And far less so when im doing badly.
And I still got banned. So now I sent a ticket about like my ban and they replied with a ton of chat records, almost taken automatically by some bot that had bad words, mainly just "f u c k" or something in contexts that are completely not insulting like>
"TheNubination 2021-03-19 20:03:09 UTC ♥♥♥♥ i should be dead tho"
"TheNubination 2021-03-19 19:47:00 UTC hes gonna rape me"
Or like this half sentence> "TheNubination 2021-03-19 19:47:07 UTC how the ♥♥♥♥ is h"
So I think what happens is that when some guy that dislikes you reports you for bad language, the system looks through all the bad stuff youve said, say that day, not just in that game, and mostly its an automated process.
And depending on some thresholds, maybe your karma, maybe previous bans, it bans you, irrespective of when or even IF those things were reported.
Even this sentence that was between me and a friend in a division in a private 2 player chat is included in the support reply TheNubination 2021-03-19 15:39:43 UTC okay lets not ♥♥♥♥ up then ;D
And this is why so many people when they whine on the main forums about their bans they get so easily shut down by these logs. But these logs are stupid and out of context.
Out of 8 of these logs provided for my full day of gaming, there's like at most 2 insults, maybe 2.5. And they are kinda soft. Like "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ petro".
I think the worst one is like "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ c-words" and maybe I do deserve a ban for that, but like, I doubt it was reported in that game.
I mean I ticketed asking why I got banned and this is what I got?
So you think people are getting banned without even getting reported? O.O
That would so messed up.
Like people can say terrible things without using cuss words, but if you use them words in totally benign even supportive way you might get banned without anyone ever even reporting you?
Maybe Im wrong, maybe reports dont work and it's just a AI watching over us lol to save money . But I think something HAS TO TRIGGER IT, and then it starts looking through your record for an excuse to ban you.
So if you really think somebody is being a super potato on purpose or something you could bet that they have sometimes said something that an automated process could consider wrong and report them for that and the bot will look through their records.
Its kinda an ♥♥♥♥ move tho >P
It's operating in the weirdest, most blankety way possible.
SOMEONE anyone, YOU report me, in random game X. Okay.
My theory is that even if I said nothing bad in that game at all, the bot will look through dozens of games prior to that.
Then if it finds enough "red flags", even if those are like supportive messages between friends that have no insults in them like my "2021-03-19 15:39:43 UTC okay lets not ♥♥♥♥ up then ;D"
After x number you get banned and the ban length is determined by the total y, no matter if those were reported or not, no matter if those are insults or not.
But this is why nobody who gets banned can defend themselves. Cause if you look through someones trash long enough you're gonna find something you want to find.
Secondly, a lot of the in game chat moderation is automated. If someone reports you for misbehaviour in chat then it automatically scans your chatlogs for swears/racial slurs/unpleasantness and if it finds any of the many examples you cite above it will be a strike against you. Get enough of those means a chat ban for a day or two. I cant imagine it looks at division/clan chat etc unless your division/clan mates are reporting you.
For more serious offences (ie if someone submitted a ticket with screenshots of something really unpleasant being said in chat or ongoing harassment etc) then it would be human moderated and could result in much longer chat bans.
Theres a very easy solution for avoiding all of this but i'll leave you to work that out yourself.
I'll compliment people occasionally, too, if they've clearly had a good game, been doing something right, or supported me in a helpful way that you don't see very often (another battleship pushing right alongside me, a destroyer laying a smoke screen for a ship in need, etc.). But those never seem to go by nearly as fast.
