Pommern also doesn't always have to contend with T10 matchmaking which is a big bonus considering how many high DPM cruisers are at T10.
As for the OP's question, it really depends on your playstyle as they're complete polar opposites of a ship.
If you are fine with a cruiser with crappy armor that sits at 19-20 km HE spamming, then sure pick Yoshino. I personally find it very boring.
If you like brawling BB's, Pommern is really find if you go full secondaries. And I mean full secondaries (IFHE and the secondary module at slot 6). Ditch the main guns since they're pretty garbage. They're scheduled to be even better when the new commander skills buffs are coming next patch.
It IS also free of course, but it requires many hours of effort. If you have a job, GK's skin requires like an hour of effort. Depending of course :)
They are completely different. I was assuming OP wanted both styles since he asked. One is a BB, one is a CA.
I can play both styles, I just don't want to invest in my first ship & have something get knee-capped again.
When they killed secondaries a while back, it killed some of my interest.
If they understand they screwed up & will bring them back & keep them, it will make my choice somewhat harder.
I do have a North Carolina setup for secondaries since it's 99% Massa.
As Jack said, I can work up to GK and be done with it on the German side too.
And I was so very close to buying a Thunderer when I lost interest.
From what I see on the wiki, the Yoshino only has 3 negatives while Pommern has 9.

One more thing............since I kinda suck & don't plan to play to "be the best", I'm looking for a solid ship that is fun, but won't put me in the poor house if you catch my drift.
What one is best for having an "OK" game?
Getting the GK requires hours of effort as well. It's over 800K total XP and around 70-90 Mil credits, depending on if you buy the other modules and upgrades, and clan discounts. Maybe if you're loaded with dragon flags and premium then yea its quick. Still would take a day or 2 at least, and that's if you're playing all day. But even then, not everyone has a crazy supply of those.
You can convert doubloons to free XP but by that point it's not exactly "free".
Yes, grinding a line requires effort. Assuming you like the line, that's WHY you play though. If you are even thinking about Pom, it means you probably like that line - or at least the idea of it.
Credits aren't worth mentioning. You'll have them before the XP. I wouldn't call "premium" loaded. I'd call $10 a month "not wasting my time." But that's just me lol It would likely take a lot more than a day. As I said, you're playing for FUN. So play that line for fun. Unless it's not fun. In which case scratch Pom.
But of course with the release of submarines, brawling BB's have even less of a reason to push in. Not like there were already enough things keeping BB's away from moving forward lol.
I'd say save the coal and wait to see how the next patch unfolds before you pull the trigger.
Iirc, they tested them a while ago & it didn't pan out.
Could they not be placed in-game this time too?
If no subs again, I'd for sure get the Pomm tonight.
Turns out my North Carolina is not setup for secondaries, but my Gneisenau is.
Yes, there are ways to deal with them but a ship like the GK, which has horrible gun angles, little to no overmatch potential, poorer accuracy by default if running secondaries, giant superstructure, and poor AA, it's not exactly fun. Pommern has the same issues and will have to deal with them from time to time but the key is that it doesn't happen all that often ever since they made the MM changes to T9 way back when.
I agree with what you said about grinding, but my point was more geared towards what you said earlier which was:
"It IS also free of course, but it requires many hours of effort. If you have a job, GK's skin requires like an hour of effort. Depending of course :)"
Kind of sounded like as if getting the GK didn't require effort either. But maybe it's just me misunderstanding you.
Can't wait to get the Ohio, just waiting on the RB boost that's coming next month to re-grind out my last line.
