Also if you do mean random battles, I have no clue what the first guy is talking about.
By Standard Battle that may refer to the mode within Randoms with the base capture points only.

to be honest i mostly play destroyers, battleships, and carriers all at teir 6 and im usually the first or possibly third to get blown up i usually take the offensive by going head first but lately ive been trying to make more strategic moves but same result (getting absolutely torn apart)
thanks for the confidence boost, i really do need all the luck i can get
Another thing that comes with time is understanding what your ships strengths and weaknesses. play to minimize your weakness and play to your strengths. It comes with time. I suggest checking some youtube videos to help understanding the basics.
Destroyers at T6 are relatively easy to play as there's not much radar. Your priority should be to get a 10 point captain so you can take Concealment Expert for better stealth (unless you play Russian destroyers) and you also need Survivability Expert for more health. All destroyers are squishy so you need to respect your concealment. Your primary tasks are capturing objectives, spotting for the team and countering enemy destroyers.
The best thing a new player can do is set the alternate UI in the lower left corner of the game options to 'full'. This will permanently display a lot of useful information right next to your targeting reticle. You should also enlarge the minimap to its second largest setting by pressing the +key on your numpad a few times.
WoWs is about game knowledge. If you know the ships that are displayed on your screen when you press TAB you'll have a much easier time. Which cruiser has radar, is this DD a gunboat or a torpedo boat, will he outspot me, how fast do their torpedoes reload. This is something that will come with time.
Your game automatically records your battles and keeps the latest 30 or so. If you want to you can ask good players to watch them and tell you how to improve. Replays can be uploaded here: https://replayswows.com/
