I'll try to get some info and report back.
\\steamapps\common\World of Warships\bin\324772
The above directory holds my most current WorldOfWarships.exe which is for version 1.7.2
replays are found in directory \\steamapps\common\World of Warships\replays
drag and drop the replay file onto the .exe
make sure the game is NOT running when you drag and drop or it will not work.
IF you associated replay file with an exe, make sure it is with the version that the replay was recorded in.
After dropping the file onto exe, WOWS will launch, do NOT attempt to sign in. Just wait, and let the replay load.
Hope this helps.
You don't need to shutdown Steam i presume?
Add me on Steam, I sent invite, so that I can give you a Dropbox link with a replay that works for me. You can also deposit one of your replays to the dropbox and I can test yours on my system.
I leave steam running. The only program you need to close, when viewing replays, is World of Warships.
I have no idea why it was made, and removing those extras don't break anything as far as i see, i can still login into Steam WoWs account as usual.
But steam_api.dll file in 327674(for current 0.7.2.2 version) breaks replays because passing of command line argument gets intercepted by Steam which causes it to show that kind of window: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/880879950550420411/A9FF893C2463F4D675EF159AA771084FF3E0E855/
After clicking OK, Steam transfers command line arguments to clientrunner.exe INSTEAD of worldofwarships.exe and it seems clientrunner is not ready for that and does not transfer them further, instead shutting down.
I'll report that to the team.
Meanwhile the solution: rename \bin\327674\steam_api.dll to steam_api2.dll
This should be enough.
Create a regular Windows shortcut to \bin\327674\worldofwarships.exe, place the shortcut in replays folder and drag a replay to this shortcut to show that replay. It can't find old settings file in that case, another one gets created in this folder, and the game starts in windowed mode with default settings, change them as needed.
Thanks for your help and solution! Now the replays work perfectly on my computer.
Cheers. Now if only we can figure out why its like that for you guys, and not for others such as myself.
I think this topic should become a sticky post, because this problem will appear after each patch.
And additional question, will there ever be a chance that a player for the replays get implemented in the game?
It should not be a re-occuring problem as Steam does not change/update files that are not tagged for updates. The only time it should need to be re-done is if Wargaming updates the hook file 'steam_api.dll'.
Also,
+1 to this.. pretty please..
...and replay controls with free-camera that works the SAME as during a match after yo die would be great too!
I think you are wrong.
With every update from Wargaming you get a new folder in the bin and in this folder is also a new "steam_api.dll" and also a new "worldofwarships.exe".
And to my knowledge you can not play a replay file with the wrong "\worldofwarships.exe". A replay from version 0.7.10.0 does not work with the "worldofwarships.exe" from version 0.7.11.0. Therefore the sticky post.
The only "steam_api.dll" that you should be changing the name of is located at Steam\steamapps\common\World of Warships
The ones in the Bin do not get called if the root "steam_api.dll" has its name changed. (for example, to "steam_api2.dll")
I've had all of my updates and never had to rename the file after any of them and I never change the bin files.
I'll talk with devs about that at some time since replay recording is now active by default.
