I did not understand the ship buying system.

In those games, I prefer the light unities, that can flanc and moove without big issues.

To unlock a ship, I have to unlock all the previous ones in the "ship tree" ? Sorry if this question is dumb, i'm quite lost.

you need to unlock ships in sequence.
to unlock DD IV, you need to unlock DD I, II, III.

You need to get enough experience on the previous ship, unlock a module that leads to next ship(pay attention to arrows), research that next ship, then you can sell(if you wish) current ship and buy next.

Its little bit complicated system , their is two things ship XP(denoted by silver stars) and free XP(denoted by golden stars) . free Xp can be use any where to unlock any tier ship without any research module but ship xp is use to unlock its modules one by one (you see arrows) remember next tier ship is also part of ship module . If you search all module including next tier ship you get elite status and ship xp of elite ship can also be converted into free xp through doubloons(gold game currency) . Premium ships have already got elite status so ship xp of premium ship can be converted into free xp .

You can use Free XP on whatever normal XP is used(and additionaly on captains), it's simply Free XP is a very precious resource.

There are several forms of xp and money that have different tiers of free and premium meant to confuse you I believe. These are staples today in any free to play game.

This game takes it a bit far though... The irony of calling it "Free XP" when you typically have to convert it with really money currency doubloons. That is Rich!

but with all that aside... I love this damn game.

Okay thanks a lot I bought my first destroyer thanks to you all :) Tomorrow i'll mod this anime style as Ryuu told me I could and i'll destroy ships by dozens :D

Well, it's called Free because it can be freely spent on anything :) Speaking of gaining it: i don't recommend converting it, it's too expensive, you may doing so when there's a discount(rare) and you really want a boost. If you want to boost it paying less: i'd get premium account + package of signal flags from the shop(+xp, +commander xp, +free xp), maybe adding +xp camouflage if it's available.
Using that method i reached Shimakaze on my twink account in just 271 battles :)

I prefer doing so under modded Imperial Japanese Navy flag, i really think it looks cool, too bad it's considered offensive in some countries, that's why it would never be in the game.
