Battleship shot dispersion.
Alright, can anyone explain to my why, whenever i'm boating around in a BB, i can't hit ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anything? :stress:

I know how to lead, and quite decent at it, the reason i can't hit anything is because of the ridiculous dispersion my shots seem to have. Out of a whole salve only or two actually hit the target while the rest just land all over the place. I feel like ♥♥♥♥♥♥ firing wildly in the dark. especialy when everyone else seem to have highly concentrated shot that all land in one place.
It is makin playing Battleships super unfun for me but i kind of have to plow trough in order to get to carriers :steamsad:

The point of BBs is not to land a lot of shots often, it's landing 1-2 citadel hits occasionally that take out 8-10k damage each and can only be healed up to 10% of that amount(50% for British cruisers, IF they survive). Also, lower-tier BBs have worse accuracy to balance out the fact that cruisers yet lack speed and maneuverability AND HP. Wyoming is quite good actually, easy to handle, a lot of guns, you can just shotgun targets, especially while retreating - more guns at the rear.

As mentioned above: try making single shots and watch where shells land, adjust and repeat, it works well on lower tiers and allows you to practice. Salvos don't increase your accuracy or chance, it allows the target to dodge most of them simply by seeing your shot. Patience is the key for battleships, sometimes it's better to wait for the target to show its side or get stuck instead of peppering it all the time.

anywya, that stil doesn't explain why everyoen else in a BB seems to have concetrated shots while my shots are all over the place

Which BB are you using? They are not all the same.

Dispersion can be shocking at lower tiers. Even up to T8 for some lines. Try mixing up volleys and single shots if one isnt working - some of the misses maybe cos of small course change from enemy that you can adapt to if you shoot one turret at a time.

Amount of times I have fired every gun on lower tier BB and landed a single cit and nothing else. They still didnt enjoy the experience :) Dont expect to land every shot.

Edit: also worth mentioning ship upgrades that improve dispersion.

Do you have a replay as that can help us see objectively how you are aiming.

I don't expect every shot to land but... it's quite frustrating to get hit in the face by a salvo while yours just lands all over the place. it's not even a leading issue because the shots land around the target i'm shooting at and if i'm lucky one or two shells will land in the middle of the bunch and hit the target

i sadly, do not

Ok the Bayern is the most infamous BB for poor dispersion, but in reality it is the best german BB i have ever used! What it is, there are two things going on with dispersion, first, yes, sometimes it is just horrible on its own, no fault on my part, but its not very often. Now here is the important thing, if your aim is a little bit off, it will punish you with horrible dispersion. but i find if your aim is spot on, mostly it wont do that (mostly).

The other thing i noticed is, single shot volleys are horrible in the Bayern. inevitably one shot will fall short the other go way over the top, its just broken, horribly broken, dont do it.

1 other thing you can do is: Watch on youyube aand see where they aim in different distances.
I bet, that will improve some...

Alright. thanks everyone.
I'l try the single shot firing and see if that works better. But i'm stil hoping i can ditch the battleship branch soon for a carrier :steammocking:

Wee update in case anyone is intrested.
doing sequential fire has so far positive results, on average i tend land one extra shot.
Meanwhile i consistently get hit in the face with a highly conentrated salvo.
dealing 8K-10K damage? more like 3K total if i'm lucky.

Frustration Galore.

Sequential fire refers to when you just hold down mouse button so all turrets fire one by one with a small delay (in contrast to double-clicking which causes all fire at once). I'm talking more about single shots with bigger delays so the enemy, preferably a cruiser, can never fully relax and use all guns without risking.

About damage and armor check out these videos: https://steamcommunity.com/app/552990/discussions/8/1727575977522138672/

ah well, i use sequential and one by one with a bit of a delay interchangable.
I'l defo look at those vids

edit: must say, very educational wich leaves me with another question. how do i see the specs of my ships guns?
