JB is being removed from the Armory and the Shop. Smolensk is being removed from the Armory. Both will be added to the list of "Rare ships" to market loot boxes.
Or they could have nerfed Smolensk at any time over the last six months, but no...
side note: which ships do you think they are gonna throw in instead of those two?
Smolensk is a bit different as you can't buy it with real money I think... Nevertheless if they nerfed it, there would be another fiasco like the Puerto Rico event and people would quit over it. Since it's already under-performing it can't hardly be nerfed anyway. My personal opinion is WG is just removing it because people hate it since they didn't list reasons like they did with the others.
The fact that WoWs is in a position where they're selling ships that may be unbalanced and they're immune to balance changes is one of the reasons that WoWs could never be seriously considered for a competitive scene. Some units are just outright superior, and not everyone has access to them, and they're particularly ones that were sold for cash.
Also, it's technically a digital good you're purchasing a license to use, under the terms and conditions laid out before any purchase is made or the game is even started. EULAs can be total bunk legally, sure, particularly those that are displayed to the user after money has already exchanged hands, but free to play games obviously don't have that backwards order.
As far as Smol is concerned. She's a "special" ship rather than a premium ship. This designation is pretty much applied to T10 reward ships. They are, in theory, subject to nerfs, but I've never heard of such a thing happening.
Smol is officially being removed due to popularity. Same goes for Jean Bart.
