She can only hit BBs and CVs with her torpedoes, so she basically loses to any cruiser or other destroyer (you can defeat other IJN torpedo boats in a gunfight if your aim is better, but everything else can still defeat you despite the recent IJN gun buffs, unless you are way better than your opponent) but get an advantage over BBs to make up for that.

For each match where i dealt 120-170k damage, i had multiple matches where i was only able to deal 15k-30k damage. A very inconsistent ship imo - you either do fantastic because you get a lot of targets in the enemy team or you do very bad because enemy BBs change course a lot and/or you are denied any impact on the game by cruisers, destroyers or CV planes.

Everything is Op if you play it right. Best tonight for me was 1.7mil silver game.

Oh nice, I had one of those last night in my worchester. I had a mere 45k damage, but it was a triple cv game and I got 98 plane kills and almost 200k plane damage :D. 1.4mil credits in a t10 match with no camo or flags.
It has DW Type 93s. They're a sleepy BBs worst nightmare. Put torpedo acceleration on that ♥♥♥♥ and those torpedoes give the defending ship less than 5 seconds to react.

However, the Asashio can be a bit tricky to play objectives since it can't really knifefight other DDs since the Asashio's torps can't hit other DDs. It's even worse than PA DDs since it can't even hit cruisers either.

So if a cruiser or DD pushes up on you, you'll be forced to run if you're trying to contest a capture point.

Lastly, based on my experience facing Asashio, once you get a bead on where an Asashio is, just turn tail and run. Yes, that's my best advice unfortanatly, that is unless you get another teammate DD or cruiser to flush them out and drive them away, there's not much you can do than turn away and run.

I like seeing them in games just for all the bleating from the BB players when they know one is about. I'd never buy one, but I have Chung Mu with a 19 point captain which also slaughters sleepy BBs and is better at everything else.

Actualy IJN DDs are great at shooting the pursuing DD with their 2x2 back guns(don't use forward turret unless really good opportunity), now even more than before. It presents a smaller target while the enemy usually doesn't have double mounts in the front. This way it's usually to possible 1 on 1 any DD except for most fat and gunboaty ones. Fat you can outrun, but vs Soviet — :rip:

Yeah...you dont outrun anything, if you try to run they hit you 1 time and your engine dies :D.

Take Last Stand and engine upgrade if needed, though i usually stuff Engine Boost upgrade in that slot instead :) In worst case you can usually smoke up.

Too bad can't wait out in the smoke and perform OMAE WA MOU SHINDEIRU torp attack(RDF is recommended) when enemy gets into 2 km distance. That's how i dealt with Soviet DDs(their slow gun rotation + rudder make them helpless at such distance) in ranked while playing IJN torpboat-line ones.
