why does my torpedo spread keep changing?!
with carrier bombers. I'll be in the middle of a bombing run and suddenly the spread just changes from a nice straight drop to this ridiculously easy to dodge fan shape thing!

is this just to make carriers less effective? I can't imagine why anyone would want a drop pattern like this!

so if someone shoots at your bombers they just freak out and toss their bombs wherever? lol.

They have to evade incomming fire, which causes them to lose bombing formation.

How to react:
- If you see a catapult fighter orbiting a target, either wait for it to be on the other side of it, or kill it with your fighters before sending in your bombers.
- If your target spread/circle suddenly widens/enlarges, get your planes away from that ship. Wait for the defensive AA to run its course and then come back while it's on cooldown.

I think you'll find the wiki informative. http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Aerial_Combat

this is just broken...

It’s not broken , it’s action-reaction

then why don't american bombers do it? dropping torpedos aimed way ahead and way behind an enemy so they can just continue sailing straight to avoid them is just stupid. the leading torpedo is just to far ahead to ever hit anything in any situation ever and the one to the rear of them would only hit if they for some reason stopped and turned into it. it's just stupid.

If you are new to torping, you just need practice to learn how to herd a ship into the angle you want. Though with autodrops it is hard, but once you hit T6 manual drops make torping extremely deadly.

it's auto drops... there's no "git gud", it does what it does and it's extremely stupid.

The only possible reason you might have of stating that would be, if you never played with an American CV. Or ever used defensive AA.
As a player who has both the tier 6 and 7 USN CVs in port, I can assure you that the same disruptions affect them as well. Though maybe not torpedo bombers as much, since US CVs have 6-plane squadrons as opposed to ♥♥♥ 4-plane ones.

I have both... actually my american CV is a tier higher and I don't have this problem with it.

Bombing pattern changes if your strike aircraft are hit by fighters/defensive aa. This is something that happens to both torpedo bombers and normal bombers from tier 4 to tier 10 no matter what faction they belong to. If you want to avoid it you either need to counter the enemy fighters or just get out of range of the defensive aa for about 30 sec.

Sure there is, even if autodrops aren't as accurate as manual, you can still get hits on every BB in the MM range and some large cruisers. If you bait their DC with the DB then you can watch them flood to death with your torp run. Plenty of tactics to git gud with even these T4 and T5 carriers. Experience and planning is how I got a solo warrior with the hosho of all things.

if you go around everything and skirt their fighters and cross you're fingers and spin around 3 times and stand on your head and pay a gnome $10 you might get a hit... but it's still stupid.

On a bb? It's easy to hit BBs every single time. Good luck hitting DDs though with torps, unless they are completly oblivious, but you can troll them by keeping them spotted and moving in a way that makes them think you are dropping on them since aside from a few exceptions, almost all dds at those tiers have terrible AA.
