Can I link Steam with my existing WoW account?
Just saw that WoW is hosted on Steam, wondering if I could set it up or is it its own client through Steam.

More correctly: officially using old accounts is not supported, Steam version creates a new one and links it to Steam.
There's an unofficial workaround to login into old account by removing steam_api.dll file, but that file is required for Steam achievements and Steam wallet to function. If you don't mind that - you can use that workaround freely, most of regular Steam features would work. You're free to continue using standalone client or add it as non-steam shortcut too.

Do you have WG WoWs account with lots of progress?

Yeah. T8 in the US and Japanese lines of various classes. Not wanting to redo all that. O well.

Well, you can use that workaround if you wish if you prefer Steam client. Or continue using standalone.
Doesn't matter much, game servers are the same, so you can play with Steam friends(from same region).

You can play using a wargaming account on a steam install.

This allows you to use the steam overlay.

idk why anyone would want to actually link accounts. The only real benefit is steam overlay, which can be gotten while using a normal wargaming account.

Overlay works even for non-steam shortcuts.

True. But using overlay on a "non-steam" .exe means no game specific screenshot uploading(When you upload a screenshot its in your gallery but doesn't end up in the "World of Warships" steam gallery) and no "time played" tracked, as well as no automatic updates. Any of which may potentially be important to someone, or not so important.

True. that and steam purchases are the 2 things I think are cut out when deleting the steam api.

I don't really care about achievements though, unless there is some super rare stuff to get, that would actually revolve around skill.

Well you can say getting
100 heroic achievements
or completing all tasks of campaigns
require some skill, but yeah, mostly those are grind achievements as usual in MMOs. Even no place for Solo Warrior :(

blah. I don't like grind achievements. Anyone can get those if they last long enough in game.

Agreed, but that's MMO, other kinds of achievements are rare. Or they might be unreal to obtain - like Kolobanov medal in WoT: kill 14 of 15 enemies yourself, lol :) (though i have it in WoT Blitz, just sniped with a AT 15A).

But you might propose some new ones for developers on main forum, at least i heard they plan to rework battle achievements a bit.

I actually have one of those.

I think warframe has some cool achievements that aren't really grind based.

It'd certainly be easier if WoWS had some sort of personal rating. but we've been asking for that for years. so it's unlikely. Alternatively something like "Reach rank 1 in ranked" could kinda work.
