Do invite codes work with the Steam Version?
Over on Reddit, I commented that I was considering making a jump from the console version of WoWS (called Legends) to the PC version. Afterwards I got several PMs giving me invite links and codes to get various goodies. But from what I understand, the Steam version, while it is still the same game and you fight the same folks as the standard Wargaming version, uses a slightly different account setup that directly uses your Steam account. My question is: Would the invite codes still work, or would I have to ask for a different setup?

Hard to really explain the differences between them :) Invite codes don't benefit anyone except you, they look just like a code usually. So what you got in PMs were likely referral links.

Yeah actually one of the guys who gave me a referral link also posted his in the megathread above, so I'll give that a try.

Just notice the instructions, you don't need to create account through website for Steam version, you just need to launch the game, and then login through that link later.

Yeah I figured. I thought about playing the Steam version some months ago and did some research; I have an established Wargaming account already for World of Tanks and was wondering if I could piggyback that onto the Steam version. Found out I can't. So I had to wonder if the referral links/codes worked the same way, hence the question.

You can use steam to launch and update your game, but it is a workaround that needs files deleted/renamed on every update and doesn't give access to Steam Walllet and achievements. Steam also have a wonky way of updating so the updates on Steam are usually 4-5 times the size of the normal updates.

I'd say 1.5-2 except for rare hotfixes maybe.
It's not a big problem per se, the real one is that Steam updater uses a ton of temporary space during update, which takes longer and involves more disk operations.

The Steam Wallet is entirely the reason I want the steam version. I haven't played WoWS on PC at all yet so I lose nothing making a new account via Steam. The wallet makes paying for things much simpler for me to do, so any game I can get/put on steam and use the wallet I have done so.
