My first carrier experience
I just played my first match with a Hosho. The planes melt when a ship looks at them and even though I figured out how the dive bombers work (after a few tries) even a successful citadel hit is like shooting spitballs for all the damage they do.

Is there a reason why the torpedo bombers don't drop torpedoes together in a salvo? They all drop lower to the water for an attack run, but only one will drop a torpedo. Apparently the other planes are just there to act as decoys? Or am I doing something wrong?

I figured out using the map "m" and clicking on that to autopilot my carrier was the best way to move it, so I can focus on flying planes.

Any tips or tricks?

To reduce the burst damage a CV can do. Later on, you'll have like 9-12 planes with 1-2 torpedoes each, depending on the tier and nation. Being able to drop all that at once would be way too much.

Wait for a hotfix. The recent patch/update increased the plane losses by a lot because they changed how AA works, but the devs are working on a fix.

And don't get discouraged by the t4 carriers. They are really really bad, probably on purpose to prevent good players from absolutely destroying other players at t3-t5.

early tier carriers is mostly spotting and destroyer hunting
the missiles hitting a destroyer still hurt but only fire if other things are there to spot
as the damage from the guns that can shoot because of you are a lot more then just your planes
dont be afraid of f ing back a squad early if you think you can get more out of a new launch with the delay
lucky a lot of early tier destroyer players dont turn their aa of yet so they are easier to spot

The Langley U.S. is quite fun once you get the torp speed boost perk. The main advantage is to scout from the beginning and spot the other CV early in the match. Good luck

The langley's torpedo bombers are it's slowest planes though. The torpedo indicator for the plane doesn't take the ship's movement into account either, so you have to eyeball it.

IMO each plane really should drop a torpedo at the same time.

I've read that the USA attack planes get some nice rockets at tier 8.

Eh. I've stopped playing certain ships altogether because of the carrier changes. Several times, even with escort, I've had my battleships destroyed before they even got close enough to engage the enemy because of planes. Its not fun and its expensive. Leveling up the iowa has become a nightmare. So i now mostly stick to cruisers and some battleships with better AA and have completely stopped using destroyers.
Kamiyama 30. juni 2019 kl. 15:35
I'm landing hits. I'm hitting destroyers with rockets. I'm hitting battleships with torps and bombs. The bombs are landing citadel hits.

The citadel hits don't noticeably reduce the health bar. It's literally the same as a fire damage tick, if anything.

Like 1% of their health bar. That's a citadel hit with a bomb from the Hosho bomb squadron.

Rockets on destroyers maybe 5% at best. If I'm lucky I can incapacitate their engine.

Carriers at least at T4 are flaming garbage. You can tell me to learn to CV. You can link guides and offer to help, but that doesn't change the fact that landing hits with a carrier is effectively the same as dropping your pants and blowing chunks out your butt.
Kamiyama 30. juni 2019 kl. 15:38
So this guy tells me his record match with a T4 is over 100k damage. It has to have been before a nerf or something. No way could you do that now. Impossible.

It probably was when they first came out, although I would disagree about it being impossible to do now, very difficult for sure, but I don't think impossible.

My experience has been different from yours, I started using carriers less than 4 weeks ago, and even being T4 where they are notoriously weak, I've had some good games. In my Hermes, I'm just above server average damage at 25k over a whopping 9 games and my Langley has had a couple of 50k+ games, although only in co-op. Lower average damage than my other T4's though, but half the games compared to my lowest one of those, so should only increase as I improve. The AA buff doesn't seem to have made a difference to tier 4 games, at least that I've noticed in the 2 games I've played in them since I got back. My WR on the Hermes is also a nice 67% but with such few games played, statistically not relevant.

The way I've been playing is to harass the hell out of DD's. and either use rockets or keep them spotted for my team to kill and only then start on the cruisers/BB's. If someone announces 'such and such has used DCP', then I will go and harass them and try to cause a fire or flood.

Most damage Ive gotten lately with a C is about 30K. That was hitting 1-2 boats with dang near every plano group launched. Had around 1650xp including premium, wasnt running any flags/camo that match.

That's not bad for a T4 CV
Kamiyama 1. juli 2019 kl. 16:29
Well I have every non-premium T4 ship sitting in port and having tried them all out, I hate carriers.

But not as much as I hate and loathe destroyers. Destroyers are malicious evil that should be obliterated immediately whenever they are found.

Carriers are just a dumpster fire and can be safely ignored the entire match until everyone else is dead. Then you can laugh hysterically at the carrier captain and murder him at your leisure. Just don't play as them ever.

Apparently it's WoWs idea of balance is to give destroyers 1-shot death torps that they can spam in salvos, but carriers get spitballs and can only shoot 1 spitball at a time because shooting multiple spitballs at once would be overpowered.

dd's are hard countered by carriers which gives them a real purpose. They are probably too good at this, if you ask me. I'd start working on the rocket planes before anything else. Nuking or perma spoting dd's at will is quite annyoing. They get a lot of free kills as it is.

If a destroyer gets to nuke you like that, something went very wrong.

Yup, 100k match definitely possible at tier 4, just did a 67k game with 4 minutes left and spent 5 minutes scouting DD's.

Totally agree with all of these points. I've been killed twice in my carrier just now by DD's, both my fault for lack of observation.

Tell that to the 2 BB's that just got slaughtered by little old me as the only one left on the team and winning the game. Although to be fair anything at tier 4 can be murdered at leisure.

personally find radio location almost worse then cv's
but thats probably because i have no captains that high leveled
planes you see coming and can turn off aa and try to dodge
it feels like you can counter it or atleast hide behind a bb until they are gone and try again
radio location just means you cant sneak up on things if your first wich dd's kindof need to be

but im also pretty sure that as soon as i have someone that leveled ill change my mind ;)
Donegali 2. juli 2019 kl. 10:40
It's not quite as good as you think except running it on DD's, and certainly not as game breaking as I thought it would be at the time. Although I haven't tried it on carriers yet, so might change my mind.
