Rudder shift or propultion upgrade for a battleship?
I have been using the rudder shift time -20% But today i spotted the time to accelerate to full speed -50%

The acceleration one sounds like a hell of a boost. Is that usefull for dodging ranged volleys by slowing and accelerating?

Or would you say rudder shift is more usefull for out maunuvering the enemy while dueling up close?

I very much prefer rudder shift, as it makes it easier to not only not run into islands but also dodge torps and angle more quickly. The propulsion upgrade is IMO mostly worth it on (non-British) DDs.

Any BB that is expected to kite truly benefits from rudder shift upgrades.

Ahh yes i hadnt thought about turning to dodge torps. Thats a huge selling point for rudder shift.

Im actually looking at vigilance next so i can spot them a little further out :)

I've never used either on BBs to be honest with ya. But I'm the guy who always runs Basics of Survivability as a requirement on BBs instead of SI so...

I will tell you now, PM2 IS NOT WORTH IT on a BB. SGM2 or DCSM2 is way more useful on a battleship, no matter how often you do some reverse-bow-tanking.

PM2 is (in my opinion) only good for DDs with smoke (to quickly accelerate out of their smoke in-case they have torpedoes or have been radared/hydroed, ect), and USN CLs that have to hug islands.

Yeah agree with Supergramps, either rudder shift or damage control. The other one turns your acceleration from dog slow to not quite dog slow.

Rudder shift > acceleration, aleays handy for dodging torps

Rudder shift for me! The exception might be Yamato/Musashi where you do a lot of bow tanking but need to move forward/backward. I still go with rudder personally, but I'd not argue with the other decision for those cases.

Starting to think for a typical battleship[ rudder shift wins. But on the subject of bow tanking i got the Dunkerque and am saving coal for the Jean Bart, both of which have all forward guns, so maybe there acceleration might good as thats pretty much all bow tanking :)

I usually base mine on the rudder speed. If the BB has around 14 seconds or below rudder shift then I will grab the prop upgrade. Slower than that and I will grab the rudder shift upgrade.

The GA with a propulsion upgrade scoots along pretty fast :steamhappy:

I main Dunkerque.

I'm with supergramps on this one. I actually run SGM2. A lot of times DDs are going to be firing torps at your bow as you're in reverse. This will help with trying to avoid them. It'll still be relatively tough though.

There are plenty of times I think about replacing SGM2 with DCSM2 though. You're probably going to be on fire a lot. Like a lot a lot.

Also, I'm with him on BoS over SI (though I have both, I took SI as my 5th skill). SI will be useful as the fight drags on, which it may or may not. Reducing fire damage you take is going to be useful in pretty much every battle from start to finish.

I tend to go for propulsion for slower BBs, so I can at least get to their low top end quicker, but go for rudder shift on faster BBs, for added slipperyness.

Interesting idea actually. Also it means that after turns you regain top speed a bit faster, so indeed should improve "average speed".
