Why is this small game 49 GB size
Just curiousi how a small game like this can be 49 GB in hard drive size. Almost take up my entire pc hard drive.

Tool a look into res_packages folder: 11 Gb for maps, 15 Gb for ships.

Err.. it's not small? It's also no where near 50 GB

Five years later, it's more like 60-70 GB. It's ludicrous.
100GB for a remake of a decades-old 2D fighting game is ludicrous. 60-70GB for literally hundreds of painstakingly modeled historical and pseudo-historical naval vessels, down to individual AA mounts and a fully rendered internal bridge, along with over a dozen heavily detailed maps dozens of kilometers in size, is par for the course at worst. Smaller than most new-release AAA titles.

As I said in another thread: if you still think this is excessive, then you're still living in the previous decade. The days of major games being 10-20GB in size are long gone, and odds are they're never coming back. My internet sucks too, I wouldn't be able to download most of this stuff even if I left my PC running nonstop for a week. But I'm not over here demanding that game developers stop moving forward with the technology just because I haven't been able to keep up.

Small? It can be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ RNG-fest, but it still has 10 huge maps with detailed landmass, and how much? About 100 high-res ship model with almost unparalleled detail and a bunch of reskins and model applicable tweaks for each. Of course it would be a ton to download!

what are u guys talking about. this game is 90 gigs on my HD's. its 90 gigs on my old windows 7 computer, its 90 gigs on windows 11 computer.
if u look at the game folders the ports alone are 45 gigs.

Well now we have hundreds of high resolution ships. They add a new line every few months. Lately... every couple of months.

It's not 90. This is an ancient post someone stupidly resurrected. Currently it's just under 70, but it does grow over time.

For the game itself, but for the folder it depends; could look like 90. If you don't delete your replays they can grow. I was looking the other day and deleted something like 8GB of replays. Don't know how long mods can stick around for, but at least 1 patch past expiry for those too.

Weird, it should delete them on it's own unless you've modified some files. It should only keep 30. My folder is 67.6 GB and it's not been messed with for a couple of years. My replay folder is 49 MB.

There's a mod that lets you keep more. You'd normally have <60MB of replays, but it's the only explanation I can think of for why it could be so big.

It does seem like something that could add up if none get deleted anymore. My folder sits at ~64 GB, by the way. No mods whatsoever.

It's not 90.

I took about half a year off, then decided to play again and it said the new updates from those 6 months added up to 25 additional GB (roughly a 4 GB/month growth). When I uninstalled the game instead, I gained an additional 70 GB of space on the drive. So yes, it's over 90.

It's not though. The reason you saw that is because a lot of the has been streamlined better. The patch would take 25 more while installing only. https://prnt.sc/tEd0Ma7iNHYA

That's not how updates work, dude. Having to download 25 gigabytes doesn't mean the game's install size increased by 25 gigabytes. You may be surprised to hear this, but when games update, they don't just add new files; they also tend to modify a large number of existing files. And the way you get those modified files is by, surprise, downloading them so they replace the outdated ones.

Those 25 gigs were not new files, with some very few exceptions. They were replacement files. So no, it isn't over 90 (as I mentioned above, my full folder for the game is around 64GB).
