I'm sry,I'm disgusted.
Every game open to the public to create MODS is very attractive.
this simulator has nothing simulator, does not respect anything of the forces of nature, and don't have polar chart (|if you know what it is), never a 38ft will face 30kts in up wind with waves of +6m, a 50ft descent from 6m wave with 30kts winds makes more than 20kts.
Gennaker does not run at TWA greater than + -170TWA.
I bought the game for 3 days, in the first two days I found it very good, on the 3rd day it is boring and ugly, there are no cities or ports, sailing at night is ugly and dark, excuse me, but you are not sailors, we are in 2018 and the game seems made in 2000...
:/

been there since vsk3, and loved it im chris_sailability , thats how i met kiwi bardy and stayed with him abd became great mates. Im after something new and this is it. but i still play vsk. just wish vsk was on steam,

Chris ... But you agree, VSK5 was made in +-2008, Sailway is far from getting close to a game made 10 years ago.
I know Kiwi Bardy.
I stopped playing VSK because it's an old game, I started playing Sailaway thinking it would be a new game, but it looks like it was made for ATARI.

the VSK's look is much better, the layout of the instruments are much better.
I already have pain in the neck to look at the upper right corner of the screen looking at my TWA :-/

I'm ThorR - BRA on Sailaway and on VSK5

I've never heard of VSK5 so had a quick look on YouTube. It looks pretty darned amazing despite it's age.

Try! Is much better if you like to "sail". I am realistic, VSK5 is far from being a simulator, but to learn to navigate and learn the rules, VSK5 is much better.

I started playing VSK5 for 5 years + -
I did not know anything, I was one of the last in all the regattas.
But I worked hard to learn, I had good contacts inside the game.
This is what I like most about VSK, getting close to others.
Others teach how.
Talk to others.
At Sailaway, everyone stands in a corner of the world and is ashamed to join a regatta.

most Sailaway players do not know how to use chat, including me.
In VSK5 we pray for a host. On Sailaway they pray not to invite for a regatta
I look like a dog asking for a bone in Sailway.

Yes,..I'll have a look at this later. Thanks.

VSK5 is made for match racing
Sailaway is made for trimming

Sailaway is made by a development team of... 1 person ! (if it has not changed) contrary to Nadeo.

You can't compare Sailaway with VSK5 because it is made for whole different reasons. Besides of that, I prefer Sailaway. For short regatta racong, SailX is the game of my choice.

Hello Brazil
I agree on a lot of points with you, assets of the navigation instruments, to be able to put our GPS points in a numerical way, on the other hand for the polar ones you will do like everyone else....... do his personal polar ones.... that you will integrate in your router yourself in csv file or POL file....

I've "enjoyed" this thread because it shows how different people are looking for different things. I agree with the initial complaint in that the simulation is less realistic in many ways--yet I'm astounded that trimming and performance is much like actual sailing. I used Sailaway to do a cruise around the east side of San Francisco Bay recently to get familiar with those waters. I was going to sail a new Benetau there and wanted to get the feel of the area. I was able to sail in real-time in and out of Emeryville. I used Rose Point Coastal Explorer to view actual charts as I went. I used Google Earth Pro to get actual 3D views from the boat as I went along. I read Coast Pilot info on every harbor and read other Active Captain reports. In short, because of Sailaway I have actually "sailed" there and my visual memory is stocked in a way that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. I have sailed an Islander 37 on the west side of SF Bay, but never in the shallow east side. I agree that there were holes in the simulation, yet enough was real. My real problems with Sailaway is learning how to handle all the lines myself. The mouse on my 4K monitor isn't always doing what I'd like and the hotkeys are too complex to feel natural yet. I tried a game controller, but am not a gamer (I'm 66) and haven't programmed all the controls yet. However, I am a sailor and I believe this simulation will eventually make a LOT of sailors very happy.

Captain Faris:
Don't try to hold the lines with mouse, try to setup your keyboard the way you will like it.
My config is: TAB for travler, Q for main sail, E for genoa, R to lead car.
Z, X, C, V to Aouthaul, Cunningan, Vang and backstay. I have all in one hand. and mouse to see click in the windows, like trim and all.
my loathing is: the 38 'behaves like an old, very slow.
Catamaran then ... pfff, is too slow.
Otherwise the 21 is very fast.
The 50 'is good in upwind but is slow in downwind, and never we can sail with TWA more than 145 with ginnaker. more than this only with spinnaker.
COD0 start to work with TWA 48º to 145º with light winds and medium winds +-60º.
And ... What is so hard to give a polar chart to us.
Does not exist?
Well... Is a game, and I'm starting to accept and like, like any game.

Can you explain this a bit more please?

Thor

you make them yourself the polar ones, a proverb that says " help yourself, gods will help you."
Graubart Mar 6, 2018 @ 12:48am
95 % of all users will not even be able/interested to read a polar chart. I use airplane polar charts for real life gliderplane flying, but only when it comes to learn a new plane. Did I ever feel the need for one in a flightsim? No, never!

Hello Graubart

All those who do races, we have all our personal fleece, searching on the discord, you have online fleece put by the players, otherwise it's not hard, you make a table, the column represents the TWA, the line represents the TWS and the conjugation of the TWA and TWS gives you the speed of the boat.
