Offline mode....

It pains me to see really promising projects like this go on-line only. I understand the world size is enormous, but is it really impossible to allow regional downloads for off-line play? My bandwidth is so limited that there's just no way I can purchase an online only game.

Exactly. Take a look at flight simulators like X-Plane. You can download all data you want and play the game offline. This game would be cool if it has a singleplayer mode, but online only makes it uninteresting.

What no single player? I single handed a 27 Foot Catalina all up and down the west coast of the U.S. "Singlle Handed" like single player. WIth todays hard drive sizes into the 4 and 6 terabytes range being affordable they should allow a full download and offline play.
I love sailing but I cannot justify buying this either.

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do this in Sailaway.
You can play as a singleplayer, you will have an online chat, and if you want someone to be your crew, it is there too.
I'm currently, save for a few people, and enjoying the company for a while, sailing alone from Hawaii to LA.
After looking at the weather, I realize it was a terrible idea to sail at this time of the year, I could change it, and go somewhere. But I'm enjoying it either way...

Glad I seen this. No Offline, No buy. Multi only Games have a very short lifespan. Especially for such a niche game, contrary to what has been said in this thread. 10yrolds always needing someone to play with! GAH! Should be a "feature", Not a "Requirement"...

The reason for the "onlline only" requirement is NOT for multiplayer, but for weather and terrain map downloads.

I imagine that eventually you will be able to go "offline" if you don't mind downloading many MANY gigs of (rotating) captured weather data and a huge map (probably 100's of gigs).

..or you don't mind downloading small parts of the world, only to sail there.

I would definately go for getting offline access to my favorite sailing areas, where I could choose various weather conditions (stormy, nice, surfing, high winds, low winds, etc).

I would be fine with an offline mode. Let the player either download a weather snapshot that doesn't get updated while offline, or allow the player to manually set the weather specs.

As for terrain, same deal, allow a download of just the area the player wants. It's not like you're going anywhere quickly ;-). This has been a feature of many flight sims. I could just sail around the Hawaiian islands and be happy for quite a while!

I want this to be cheap, the price is too high and not even deducted for the summer sale. I love the atmosphere of the game, but i live in india and the game is too costly in it's current price
