Bug: Resolution can't be changed
So, I've been enjoying the demo so far except for one thing: I can't change the resolution.

On first start, the game opened in a window, I went to the options and changed it to 1680x1050 fullscreen. The program went fullscreen, but in 1920x1080, cutting off the sides of the menu, and leading to performance problems on my slightly underpowered machine.

Since then, I can enter whatever I want at the resolution setting and tick or untick the fullscreen box, nothing has any effect. When I click "Apply", the button disables but nothing changes.

I can go to windowed mode by hitting Alt+Enter, but there I can also not influence the resolution in any way.

Interesting side note: When the game is loading, and I focus on another program on the second screen at the right time, the game will actually load in 1680x1050 fullscreen. As soon as I give it focus though, it changes resolution.

Further information that may or may not be relevant: Running 2 screens on 1680x1050. My primary monitor apparently supports 1920x1050 by cuttting it off, I sometimes had the issue in other games that they defaulted to that.

Thanks for an already awesome game!

Thank you for the clear-cut explanation. I've been hearing about display issues usually when the monitor is not a standard aspect ratio. It's something that needs to be looked into so it'll be one of the main focus for us going forward, that and adding a proper keubinding system.

Appreciate the feedback and I hope to be able to offer a proper solution in the future and I'm glad you enjoyed yourself !!!

I'd just want to second this. In the demo right now there is no way to change to a resolution to something usable on a 1680x1050 (16:10) display. Elsewhere it can be pulled of to set the resolution to 1600x900, but here it does exactly nothing; the menus, subtitles and who knows what else start outside the viewable area. Even if I press Alt-Enter to switch out of full screen, a good portion of HUD elements are outside the game window.

The game has been designed for 1920x1080 per default. At the time I was under the impression that this would be scaled accordingly, which it turns out it doesn't.

This becomes a bigger problem when so many assets are made with 16:9 in mind. So in short I will have to take a good look at how this can be solved. I do have a few ideas how to do this, but it will require time and effort to make sure this works.

So I'll do my best to figure this out ASAP, since I've been getting more and more reports of people having their UI cut off when they're using anything but 16:9.

Sorry for this, I'll take the blameand apologize.

No problem, Early Access exists exactly for this reason :-)

That's true, but I wouldn't want to use it as an excuse. And to be completely honest it's purely inexperience on my behalf. I've done a lot before I made STARDROP, but I've never created a UI from scratch. I've worked with existing ones for sure, so this was simply something I didn't foresee.

But as I mentioned I will have to do some more experimenting and testing and hopefully will get it sorted. I have to.

Thank you for your understanding. :)

Hey,

Just wanted to second Eddie Krueger on the fact that even in windowed mode the resolution (which can't be changed) means that some UI elements/menu parts are off screen. Nothing serious, everything was usable for me, just a minor visual problem.

Also have to agree with him: Don't be too hard on yourself :) This is an awesome game now, even before early access properly starts! Yes, I would like it fixed, but that's what I sign up for when I play a demo before the early access release.

Keep up the good work!

Just took a look at the demo, and now it seems that setting the resolution to 1600x900 on a 16:10 display in full screen mode makes the UI fully visible and not cut off at the edges.

Thanks :-)

You;re very wlcome. I need to send out a notification that indeed the fullscreen option now actually works as intended and my dumbass self wasn't aware of it until I just dug in and try to figure out if I made a mistake, and I did. :P

Hi,

I amazingly surprise by the game, it's awesome! :) But i have a stupid question, is it possible to play in full screen , i don't find an option to disable windowed mode (may be there isn't such option :) ) I play in standard resolution 1920 X 1080 but in windowed mode :/ -

Great job dev!

Hi theodnum,

Inside the video options you'll find "Resolution Settings". Just click on that and you should be able to set your preferred screen resolution. :)

Umm... I seem to have a somewhat opposite issue from what I'm seeing here - my demo starts in fullscreen and I cannot get it out, either with the resolution options sub-menu or just by pressing alt+enter.

I also get the left/right edges of my screen cut off. The resolution options seem to have no effect (either the indvidual #x# options, or the slider, if that's supposed to help), even with restarts.

I guess I'll just wait for this to develop further and try a later demo maybe. I really do like the premise.

That's a first.

It's probably worth mentioning that these comments have been made when we were on an older engine branch. We just upgraded last week so there might be an issue somewhere that I am not aware of and I'll need to dig further.

I'm also wondering are you using any GPS software to upscale, or modify resolutions etc? Sometimes these may interfere as well.

Mmm no, I tend to run my system fairly vanilla - I mod my games, not my hardware. If something's getting all tech-fancy on the back end, I'm unaware of it, and it hasn't manifested this sort of issue with any other games that I've noticed.

All right, we'll do some testing and see what's going on. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit: On my end everything works as intended. I can change from 1080 to ultra-wide without issues and back. Alt+Enter seems to be working as well.

What's your GPU?

NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX950

Driver version 384.76

Hope that's enough, because past that point, my awareness of salient graphics card info drops off sharply :o
