How Long Is This?
With the advent of The Martian VR Experience coming out around the same time, which is a mere 20 minute experience, it got me thinking.

It might be worthwhile if potential customers knew how long new VR games like this are. ie. how many rooms/levels/missions, what is the estimated play time, repeat value, etc? (The latter would probably be determined by independent reviews.)

Personally, I feel a 3 hour minimum should apply, and the pricing should be similar to what you might find for an app on the Google Play Store (or that lesser known place you get titles from for an iDevice).

Veritably bad titles are a dime and dozen for the HTC Vive, of late, and it is really hurting the indie dev community as a whole. Steam doesn't care. They win either way.

People are becoming less inclined to support an Indie Dev because they have been let down so many times in the past. So they are understandably reluctant to keep taking chances on potentially good games like this. (Potentially being the operative word.)

I agree with you on content,room-scale and interaction but length could be argued. That being said this game is less than $3 and I can be very forgiving at that price as long as there is actually something significant to do in the game. But not at $20 for the Martian Game you mentioned.

Hey Tom ;) j/k.

I agree with everything you said. Arguing length would be par for the course. On a side-note: I tried the Oculus Touch Demo today on ReVive. As much as I hate that imbecile of a kid, Palmer Luckey, I now want to buy an Oculus Rift. Never thought I'd say the words. But the problem with quality titles, or lack thereof, on the Vive, would be instantly solved.

I know, drastic measures. But everyone knows, content is king.

And that is what I have been arguing with many people about. The fact that big companies could have had good games for us already but for some reason the Rift was getting all the attention even though it was not room-scale nor the fact that it had no motion controllers. There is something fishy going on here. Trump got elected so I guess that is the way the world turns sometimes. Sorry for going off topic there but it pains me that the VIVE has gotten no real love from the big boys except Croteam even though it was superior hardware. Are you saying the Oculus is better hardware too now?

The Vive's HMD, whilst 'not as comfortable as the Rift' (according to some), is far superior to the Rift. Anyone can check the specifications. The controllers on the other hand need improvement. It is Valve who provided the technology to Palmer Luckey in the first place, hoping for a young face to lead us into the future. First mistake. Ever since it has been faux pas after faux pas. I for one am getting fed up defending the Vive. Trump appeals to the lowest common denominator, that is a given. What is important to focus on is the circumstances which put him there in the first place because that is where the real danger lies; it is very indicative of the education system and how it badly needs a major overhaul. Personally, I think logical thinking should be a compulsary subject. We should all be able to recite all the logical fallacies when called upon (or at least have them pinned to our walls/foreheads). ;) I guess I just regained that initial wonderment when I tried the Oculus Touch Demo. It is superb! I will never write-off the Vive but sometimes I want to.

Ever noticed the Vive and the Oculus logo together make up the Illuminati symbol. ;)

Where is the goodness in that? Is that the kind of goodness like an asteroid hitting earth and killing all the dinosaurs so that mammals can thrive kind of goodness? Just a little confused on the logic.

Yeah the symbols...they say something don't they? And it is a shame that HTC and Vavle shared in good faith their tech only to get the short end of the stick. I recently cancelled my Facebook and it was very important to me in so many ways and maybe it was in haste. But though I am imperfect in a lot of ways when I feel my conscience is telling me I am factually doing something wrong or I am seeing something that is factually wrong I will protest even if it hurts me. People unfortunatley make decisions based on feelings alone and don't forsee the consequences nor do they know what sacrifice is. That being said Vavle and HTC need to start pumping out games of their own (or hiring dev teams to make some seriously quality high content games) soon for the VIVE otherwise PS4 with its over the top advertisements (have you seen them?) and the Rifts shady practices with their games are going to hurt VIVE's reputation by making it look like a monster of a piece of hardware with ,as you said, lack of "good" content.

Cancelling Facebook. Very drastic! I would rather take back control by chopping the head off any of those pesky, persistent little beasts that befoul you rather than throw the baby out with the bathwater, so to speak. But I am sure you have your reasons.

My feelings are that it would be more beneficial if someone of your disposition would consider staying, in order to maintain a legitimate voice on facebook. You know, so it doesn't become an entire hollering cesspool of veritable despair for young and old! There is good out there, you just have to find it!

Your words about sacrifice resonate with me, but before I get too far off-topic, yes, PSVR looks astounding to the layperson, until you don a HMD and see how crap the graphics actually are. PSVR's speciality is in cut-scenes and that's pretty much were the magic ends.

Hopefully better Vive content is on the horizon. Still waiting for the Devs to chime in here and answer my question. Even with the low price tag, I don't hold much faith in a title that the devs won't even stand behind.

Maybe I will take up your advice and open a Facebook under and alias. :) Maybe you should send your message right to the dev rather than a discussion title. With Google Earth VR and that other wave shooter Overkill that just came out and Arizona Sunshine on the horizon we may have reached the mouth of the river to an ocean of games for VIVE. We shall see in the next couple months. I am sure there are developers working behind the scenes that we are not aware of who may surprise us but I am not getting my hopes up too high just yet but I am hopeful.

I am excited about SYREN (https://youtu.be/t2kvYHy_0mo). I don't really want to message the dev, I was just trying to stay slightly on-topic. :) I'm a big fan of sporting games too, so I will welcome VR Squash 2017. Oh and Holoball is getting multiplayer!! I also have very high hopes for Rom Extraction.

That looks very creepy. And I love sci-fi. You know we could have a game like Alien Isolation in VR since it does not involve too much running around. This just reminded me of that being it is alien premise I assume. This is a VIVE game?
SilentBOb Nov 17, 2016 @ 2:28pm
It should be released on the Vive. In fact, it is being released on all platforms simultaneously, I believe. Alien Isolation, great suggestion.
