Best AR can be found later, wont spoil it for you :)
p.s. if you asking AVS vs SKS(not scoped) then it depends if you have enough ammo for AVS, then ofc AVS is better ...
AR are also nice but you will struggles with bullets most of the game, Vintorez is kind of hard to get ammo, the AKMS is nice but the same problem as the Vintorez.
And if you are not going to use burst might as well go for the rifles.
Another big thing is that you will need to avoid hiting your companions so single fire is better.
Even so, the best damage in the game is done by the LMG(still AR) but imagine wasting 100 rounds in 2 bandit fights?:P
You can even grab the AK-47 at the begining of the game and finish the game on normal with the right stats and skill checks so....it's a matter of options.
I also got the mark 19 pistol because it does almost the same damage as rifles on bandits or lower armor npc but upgraded to scoped sks as soon as i could.
Imho gun balance needs alot of tweaking.
