Where can I buy guns?

The crafted gun deals only 1 damage (3 if headshot) and is worse than kicking and punching. Shops in the starting village sell only pistol ammo and the hunting rifle come with no ammunition.
The random encounter near the first village has 3 cultists and two of them have the pistol that dealt about 7dmg per shot(while mine can do only 1dmg per shot).
I knew the game would be tough but now I start to believe that some setting is off. If the crafted item would be so useless then why would the game even have it as an option? And please someone point out where could I purchase some decent weapon as the crafting certainly is not reliable. Thank you in advance!

When you get to Kras (shortened spelling - the big city), there is a gun dealer on the waterside street. Same street as the police station, hotel and movie theater, on the water side.
He's got a good selection, and his stock rotates. But it's super expensive. I've only made ammo purchases so far.

There's way too many ways to spend money in this game :-)

1. Caravans often have guns for sale, sometimes even very good weapons. I found best ones like PTRD, Kalashnikov machine gun and Machete from them. There may be level scaling here (not sure), but guns and assault rifle were found early easily.

2. Try to avoid the Krasnoznamenny Weapon shop except the armor shop which often has best rare armors that are very hard to find. The only good about Kras Weapon shop is ammo.

3. Save scum is your friend here. Go on the overwold until you encounter caravan or reload.

You can also save scum before visting Kras until the armor shop has best armor like Bulletproof vest. The shop will refresh after you have been away from Krasnoznamenny for a while.

Like tacitus said the gun vendor is in Krasnozxyz. If you have about ~100 pickpocket you can steal all his weapons and ammo within 1-10 tries. With higher pickpocket within 1-3 tries.

In the early game (about the first 10-15hrs) you should avoid combat at all if the enemy is not a rat or bug and just travel to all places and do the "talking quests".

Just do the Attack on Otradnoye quest, these people are overcomplicating themselves:) never get pickpocket as your first skill. Speech is your first skill up to 120
