Crafting is good but very limtied in the begining, your chances of succes when crafting something are pretty low and you lose verything you had in the recipe
You need to buy or find recipes, the weapons can be quite good
You will increase your carry capacity soon enough:D and get more companions wich carry the loot and better backpacks
A chest in Otradnoye? The abandoned house i hope
Everything you can sell, except for quest items, try to keep the minimum ammount of stuff until you get the car or player base
Usually the junk items are used at crafting(garbage can loot) so keep a few of them if you want
First of all the game depends a lot on how you make your character, try give him at least 10 int and 10 dex.

And yes, I have my "stash" in the abandoned house.
Still, what is vendor junk and what might be useful?
Examples: Soap, cassettes, pictures, photos, medals etc. ?
If you find that you haven't stockpiled a certain item then it probably won't be hard to find, considering there are junk dealers in towns and on the road.
Store quest/unique stuff to free up space.
From some point, maybe level 8, I started selling most junk - and avoiding heavier junk. Unless you are playing with high tinker skills, you can avoid the junk cycle from the start.
There are some good weapons you can build down the crafting line, but you have to invest in those perks - like no more jamming - and I didn't. I started finding those weapons on enemies before I found the weapon plans anyways... Grab guns, ammo, meds, coffee - other high ruble/weight items - and move along. In this game you get a little experience from crafting, but a lot of experience from fighting. I realized that sorting my inventory 5 minutes after every battle is 5 minutes I could be slaying more slavers.
Since the game is a Russian homage to Fallout 1-2, it has a lot of allusions to prominent persons, fictional characters and urban legends popular in Russia. Say, Hexogen companion is a mix of controversial writers A. Solzhenytsin and A. Prokhanov. The car fraudster Kurdyumov has the face and catch-phrases of Yakubovich, the host of local "Wheel of Fortune" show.
Generally, even in case of items that you could use elsewhere there are none that you can bring somewhere and suddenly be rewarded with a perfect gun of immortal doom +15 you can't get any other way, so don't worry too much.
The rest I won't spoil. Except for maybe don't put too much hope on the crafting - best weapons and armor are found and not crafted. And even in case of boom glove - it's easier to get it as loot than to make it.
As for the crafting, there are many sources detailing the ingredients needed for " most " of the the various craftables. Some are outdated though because of the updates.
A great source of general information are the community guides. Well worth looking through.
