Two questions: How do you sneak? And how viable is unarmed?
I went unarmed but despite having 80+ unarmed skill and 7 str I only do one damage a hit

You don't sneak in the game, it's only used to pickpocket
Unarmed is a strange skil.....you have to get the perks for unarmed combat so it's viable but it limits you options/quest options and overall character build too much

sneak is the most op skill in game, it's used passively only, it literally makes people "not notice you", with 50 sneak, i could steal almost anything in front of people in town, in that gasstation north of KZM i stole all 56 bottle of gas in front of the guard guy's face.
And with 150 or even 199 stealth, your enemies can't see you either, t's like youre on cheat code, you shoot a anyone you want but they just running around like idiots.
I srsly think the high sneak effect could be a game bug, but as for now, sneak is basically god tier skill.

About unarmed, it's useless.

This is super interesting. Do you think it would be a viable choice for a solo melee build? Would I be able to go from one enemy to another and kill them one by one, even after the combat has started?

sneak can influence the radius the enemies detect you however the unarmed it's a good way to get you killed since you'll get a limited number of AP and you won't be able to jump or teleport to cover after punching

A melee build with high sneak is viable if you know the game fairly well. It might not be much fun for your first playthrough as you'll generally get killed a lot more than with ranged weapons and companions.

It's really weird idiea to fight mele and even unarmed vs guys with guns. The same as in real life you put yourself in a very disadvantageous situation. Sure you can try it in game. Dont try it in real life though.

Fot any mele in game you should have str8 at least

uhh yeah its a really weird ideato fight guys with guns even if you have guns becuase you usually die or at the very least get incapacitated by getting shot once

this is a game and isnt supposed to reflect real life. in any game there needs to be a suspension of disbelief

Sneak is used passively all the time, like people in the thread already mentioned. It helps you take stuff from homes unnoticed, get closer to enemies before they aggro, etcetera.
Unarmed wasn't meant to be the primary character fighting style, but some day we'll add more fist weapons and it will become more damaging.

are melee weapons supposed to be viable or are they also more in the 'placeholder' category
Neyreyan_Youtube Jan 6, 2019 @ 5:08pm
melee weapons are viable but the special knife and machete are hard to find or just rare...and you need to use perk points to build for melee

In short: not worth it unless you know what you are doing

if you go for unarmed, you might want to get an unarmed weapon, as paradoxically as that sounds; there are brass knuckles and such in the game that improve your damage quite a bit; guns are still better all-in-all, especially since you can play with positioning and minimize enemy fire, but melee and unarmed are at least somewhat doable, although certainly more difficult to get a good build and to play well, but at least they won't require a constant ammo supply
