Killing caravaners / scavengers etc in random encounters?
Curious how this game handles random encounters.. i.e. if you see peaceful caravaners or scavengers in a random encounter on the map and choose the kill the them, does the world magically know you are a murderer and cause guards in towns / cities to attack you on sight? Some rpgs do this and it is really dumb, wondering how ti works in this game (obviously if you attack a town's guards / citizen then it makes sense.. but I'm talking about some random strangers in a map encounter)

There's a band of super mercs who appear in a random encounter if you murder too many caravans. They require you either pay 15000 or beat them in a fight and they're really strong.

I tend to avoid them by saving and reloading before the encounter and I'm contemplating actually just paying the bribe so I can raid caravans in peace.

So after you go murder hobo on one caravan it will start the merc hunt. There is no real way to get around that. After you kill a caravan, the leader will drop a radio with a connection to the caravan hub. I believe that the radio is the explination to why the mercs know who killed them.

I found that once the merc hunt started the only two ways to live are to bribe them or get let off with a warning (Through full compliance). If you get let off they will take all the items that you have on your person. There is no real way to avoid the encounter without loss, although you can store all of your items in a containter within the world and then go to the encounter with only a knife and some food. Once you go through the encounter and get all your loot stolen, you can then returm to your stash and re-arm with a clean slate.

I dont know what happens if you kill a caravan after this merc hunt. I have a strong feeling they wont let you off the hook twice (Unless its the bribe).

Killing the super mercs is also really worth it, you get like 6 6b3 vests and aton of guns, just don't forget to bring something to help you carry all of it. one vest weighs 12.50 kg

Don't mean to thread hijack - but has anyone tried and succeeded in pickpocketing caravan merchants?

Many, many times....70+ and lots of reloads

They let you off the hook only once....
But there is another way. In the main city on the barge there is a den of thieves. There is a guy sitting by the radio if you do some quests for him he can fix your reputation for like 5k. I think this can also be done only once.

Another possible trick not fully tested, is to always travel with car, and then the mercenaries will perhaps never attack. I tested only a time before to load back before caravan attack.

@xarfaks

Ye sure it works? Cause when I got to him he didn’t have the option to payoff the mercenaries.

@Z-2552

You need make some quests for him first

@FEDYA

Finished his quest doe. He did told me if I ever have trouble with mercs, just go to him
(Though when I did, no option where there)

Will the option not appear if I bring the radio?(from the caravan owner)

Or maybe because I only paid the 3k dept of the power plant worker guy and kept the rest.
