meat from Animals?

So,
Just got the game, went out and killed a few rats while gathering toadstools.. I have a shiv.. and now my character is hungry.. How would I go about carving up some delicious rat meats?

Go to the global map and set up camp with the buttom in the right lower corner (I think!)

Then click on the fire you find there and follow the instructions to select your meal.

Ah, for that you need some sort of knife and you probably need to have learned how to process dead animals from the fisherman near the pond in the first village map. NW corner.

Hint: Bring some Vodka.

Just want to add - you need most items for contextual actions equipped in your hand to use them. For example, an empty bottle if you want to fill it with water, has to be placed in your active weapon slot. I'm not sure if it's the same for skinning animals because I haven't done it yet.

It's not the same. You don't need to hold the knife.

You need to give the fisherman in the first village some vodka so he will teach you the perk which allows you to loot animals. Once you have it any bladed weapon will allow you to gather meat and insect bits (used for fishing).
