Got a lucky 17 damage after about 5 reloads. I suc xD
Hard difficulty is one thing, making the game impossible to beat is another.
You can find a companion on the outskirts of the big city (Listen to the intro, they say where he is and show a photo of the building he's in) and you pick up a potential second soon after if you have some survival skill (30-40 ish.)
I killed "the rat" with a weak fighting character level 2.
My Str and Endu are 4, but dex and alert are better, so i have 8AP per turn.
And Luck is 8.
I crafted a zip gun (my main combat is 50 Pistol), shot him in the head before combat (4AP), then reloaded (2AP), walked back (2AP), took the beating (one or two hits, lucky enough to dodge several times), and repeated i think 2 times. Then finished him with a knife, 2AP per hit at 70% to end his life. I was left with 15HP, not bad.
and when he says oops he has nothing to give you, ask him to look around some
more. when i did that he found a rusty shotgun (it was actually a rifle) and gave
it to me (only had one bullet). i also found a shovel somewhere not to far from
his house in the north end of town.
it took a few reloads but i finally got a 26 hp on my shot at the rat--w/o talking
to him first--and then kited him around for a while, hitting him with the shovel
a few turns til he went down (i made sue to count the squares he was away from me so he had just enough AP to wind up next to me with his attack but couldn't hit me). like i say, this all took a few re-loads but even though i didn't have a high enough rifle skill it still worked.
