Odd key
Behind bunker 317 there is a locked box. It can only be opened by a certain key. You get this by killing an NPC. However when you open the box it's empty? Why have a special key for an empty box? Maybe some content is missing?

Actually if they rob you it's going to have all of your robbed equipment. Which I think is kind of stupid - because they rob you and go inside the bunker but your stuff is outside in a box which isn't guarded.

but a few times i tried to open in previous gameplays it said i need a specific key

LOL...I was just about to post the same question as the OP here! I managed to survive the fight using lots of stims to heal, and also found nothing in the box by their camp. It seems a bit strange that the only reason I got the key was that my party managed to kill the campers, so they obviously did not get our gear...??? Maybe if you give the gear up, you can pickpocket the key and recover it without winning the fight? Winning the fight was worth it though since I looted a backpack that provides +28 kg of carry weight and Fidel inherited my backpack which is +10 kg, an improvement over the crafted one he was using that is +6 kg...

Its probably just an odd way the developers allowed you to get your stuff back if you got robbed. It would have been nice if they left a little random loot in it, maybe a nice but cheap gun with no rust, or a sharpened knife.

Yes, but it seems that the only way to get the key is to kill the bad guys, in which case they don't take your gear...that is what puzzles me...or am I missing something here?

You can pick pocket them if you have high enough skill I guess, otherwise you have to come back later with a few more levels under your belt and maybe kill them then. I didnt go there myself until level 4 with the dog and 2 companions so it worked out ok. Theres another series from players on this one listed under bunker 317, that gives a lot more detail to avoid giving them your stuff not far from this one if you want other choices, i guess like eating a mushroom to let them think everything is toxic.

Just for info. I went in cleared put most of the stuff that I could get to. Left and ran into them outside. They killed me. Over and over lol. So I stored my main stuff in a locker. Went out surrendered and gave them my stuff. Went back in and got everything stored out of locker. Then because I had an old AK 47 I had found. I came around the corner we saw each other and I got the offer to fire a burst into the ceiling. They gave up. Gave me the key telling me my stuff was in the box and left.

Thats a new one. Someone somewhere said you could arm the cart on the rails with a timer bomb and blow up the door with the 3 guys to boot and therefore don't need to have them open the door or to fight them. It will probably work and possibly you can loot the bodies. I dont know results behind that, but too low a level you may still have problems inside the bunker itself so save first.

There isn't anything dangerous in the bunker. If your character has problems there, said character probably needsto rethink some of his life choices.
