I'm sure there are many who will enjoy Versus and that there have been people asking for such a thing in Vermintide's lifetime. Although it might be a little too late? I'm not sure. It seems to me like it would make more sense to spend that developer time on versus mode in Darktide...
"Why after ~4-5 years from release FS decided to move from a decent game with it's own identity to left4dead-like experience."
it's a project from long time ago that fatshark team postponed for the better time. some people really wanted this and voila here it is. they are happy. it is all that matters
imo this is about testing the waters. they want to see the ins and outs of developing and managing a pvp game/game mode for their future projects. vt2 is nothing but a guinea pig in this instance.
They're not going to abandon PvE just because they added PvP.
Turned out after FS made all those promises for ongoing support and content they instead moved all the devs over to create the same barebones game again but in 40k paint and gave us the finger with slow, poorly thought out content.
If without the versus already caused discontent, imagine with it?
The best example was this balance:
Warrior Priest: The 'Prayer of Vengeance' talent has been reduced from 25% bonus damage to Monsters to a 15% bonus.
For me this was unnecessary, just like the traits in the torpedo.
The WP changes was not needed sure but the torpedo made total sense.
