Beam Staff against bosses: should I avoid the head?
Should I avoid targeting the head of a boss or other creature when holding the Beam Staff laser?

I heard the beam applies less DOT if the head is being hit, and/or that the "ramp up" effect of the staff is reset when switching between the head & body of a boss.

Is this true? Or should I always try to aim at the head for some extra headshot damage?

I've never heard that in more than 2000 hours and don't believe it.

I'm confident that's not a thing.

It was a thing. It is not anymore. Just make sure you're hitting the boss. Hitting some other target will reset the ramp up efffect.

while it's not bad to hit the head, you need to continuously hit the target to get maximum efficiency . while the head may a better initial dmg burst, the damage of the beam ramps up on a target over time, once you miss a tick it will reset to its base dmg and slowly ramp up again.

unless you got god aim and can predict the bosses animations in advance its advised to go for center of mass to maximise long term dmg

Basically: whatever you do, just stay on target

On a spawn the head is center of mass.

The thing op was asking is whether hitting the head hitbox resets the ramp-up effect of the beam staff. It used to, but it doesn't do that anymore.

The only time to avoid the head is if you're targeting a mauler and you don't have any additional bonus headshot damage.

i wouldnt use the beamstaff on the boss to begin with. Its weak for that purpose. build up your overcharge then melee

Bruh.

Beam staff is Sienna's 2nd fastest way of dealing with bosses.

Did you ever use it ?

That's the polar opposite of community knowledge

What is Sienna's fastest way of dealing with bosses?

Prolly shoving them off a cliff with fire walk.

Or inserting a corus staff up their rear. One or the other.

A grenade does the same though.

That means you think it's better than either coruscation or bolt staff at damaging monsters and bosses.

Which one?

I thought just spamming fire walk and that one staff that spawns fire pillars stacks the most dmg?

Corruscation spamming aoes right on the boss is probably faster than beam. Bolt is totally not sustanable at killing bosses. You throw 4 shots and are overheated.
