Cannot upgrade weapon to veteran rarity

Hello all,

I don't seem to have the option to upgrade any of my orange items to red, despite having 6 red dust. The flail I am trying to upgrade is not equipped on any class, but other orange items not equipped on any character don't show the option either. Am I overlooking something or is this a bug? How can I resolve this?

I have no idea why that'd happen, but I do have an idea to fix it.

Try going into the gameplay settings and switching on the old deprecated UI, might fix it. *shrug*

You seem to be very new to the game, I never heared of it but could it be that there's some kind of gamestage a player must have to upgrade it?

I was wondering if there was a minimum character level to upgrade to veteran, but couldn't find anything about that on the wiki. A friend of mine is lower level and got a red item as a drop just fine though (not crafted nevertheless).

Thanks for the idea with the deprecated menu settings - I checked and unfortunately the upgrade button is also greyed out and curiously includes 2 green dust for the same upgrade.

I suppose it could be that you need a minimum level to upgrade to red quality items. Can't test this myself, though, since I've had all characters at 35 for years.

Yeah, holding the greyed out button doesn't work either. Other lower quality weapons upgrade just fine. The weapon is only a bit over 200 power, so that extra boost would be nice + maxing out the perks.

All 6 of the units of red powder I have are from the seasonal free gifts, so that makes me wonder if not having obtained any red powder organically from salvaging a red item may be the culprit. Hard to test that hypothesis until I eventually drop a red item from a chest, but that is in the hands of RNG.
