Gearing to 350 & Getting the Gear You Want
After some testing this morning, it seems that the loot power level updates mentioned by the developers in previous posts are not included in this patch.

I used my highest character, a level 35+16 Saltz, and opened three chests. Here’s what I received:
FYI: (R=Red, O=Orange, B=Blue, G=Green, W=White)

1 Legend Merchant Chest (288-300): O289, B293, B298
2 Commendation Chest II (260-300): G262, G262, B275, R300, B268, G261
I was fortunate enough to get a Red 300 (my 3rd Red ever) from the second chest, but it seems the loot system isn’t reflecting the changes I expected.

A Fatshark developer had previously mentioned that each level above 35 on your highest career should increase the low end of the loot table by 1 point. While the change in goalposts is disappointing, it at least offered some clarity in terms of what players can do to regain some of the power that was removed.

If this update had been implemented as I understood, the Legend Merchant Chest I opened today should have dropped within the 300-300 range, and the Commendation Chest II should have dropped between 276-300. As you can see above, that's not the case

The disappointing issue here is that players who recently leveled up—particularly during the Halloween event—and then purchased the DLC careers with the expectation of crafting unique items, are now faced with a system that has changed just as they were about to benefit from their grind. This change likely doesn’t affect long-time players who have their favorite weapons and are mainly focused on chasing Reds, but it’s a major setback for those who aren’t sitting on dozens of level 300 items just waiting to be upgraded.

Interestingly, the crafting system now seems to be fixed to follow the expected loot changes (which is good news!) . I crafted 7 items this morning and received the following:

G296, B281, G289, G279, B280, G276, B296

So, it seems the new approach is to grind a single character up to 35+35, scrap everything except your highest items, keep multiple 300s of each item, hope for Reds, and then craft the items you want, upgrading them with Dust.

I'm just happy/lucky that I got my characters to 650 power level before this unfortunate update hit. If you are still on that grind, the end game looks like it may take quite a bit longer.

Honestly, I don't see how these new changes benefit the game, especially newer players, but maybe I'm not seeing the big picture.

edit 11/27 10:58am: Added the FYI key for loot drops.

I think the important change is that you can get red items from lower tier loot drops, which is better for newer players and if I'm not misinterpreting the shown numbers, the drop chances for red items are a little higher, which is better in general.

The patch notes actually say that "Each Hero level past level 30 increases the minimum power of crafted items by 1.", so a 35+30 should max it out according to the patch notes

It isn't following that in your findings though, so maybe the patch notes saying 30 is wrong and that it actually is each level past 35.

It is odd that it is only for crafting instead of all drops.

My *experience* playing before (~1100 hours pre-patch) is that I would craft something and actually get 300 blues and oranges the most.

All my characters/careers (dlc included i love this game) were and still are 35+. My highest is Bardin 200 (+208 as of now).

Post Update (~1300 hours) - I swear I'm crafting mostly grays, greens, *some* blues and very few lvl 300 items at all. Getting an orange is nearly impossible it seems.

I'm not complaining, but the crafting system feels worse because I can't craft a bunch like pre-patch.
Anyone else have this xp?

Crafting is definitely worse than it was. Played a couple years ago and could make ~15 of any weapon and end up with a couple 300 oranges to choose from. Now, even at >35+35, cranking out almost exclusively items in the 260s and 270s, almost no oranges, very few over 290 and haven't seen a 300 in ~40 crafts. Supposedly the patch a week ago added to the minimum level for crafting and a lot of people are saying get to 35+35 and you craft nothing but 300s. It's just not true.

I saw someone report that you may have to get another character leveled up more?

It would suck if it only counted all levels above 30 post patch as opposed to total.

It's possible, not sure. I do have all characters over 35, one at +42, next highest is +7 though.

Official patch note for 6.0.4 from last week is...

Tweaked the power of items received from crafting: Each Hero level past level 30 increases the minimum power of crafted items by 1. This means that at sufficiently high levels, crafted items are guaranteed to be 300 item power. Only the level from the highest level character is considered.

Does indicate only one character is required.

I've seen some people report crafting nothing but 300s with just one 35+35 character. Others are reporting issues similar to mine, 35+35 or higher character, already have 300 items in every slot but crafting lower level gear.

Did happen to get a red version of the weapon I was trying to craft from a chest, so content for now. Hopefully this all gets sorted out.

As far as the original topic, it does seem to be incredibly more difficult to get a full set of 300 oranges now than it was before 6.0.

Oh 100%. There must be some reason for it that we're not seeing.

At least crafting isn't as bad as long as you get dust.
BulletProof417 Nov 27, 2024 @ 3:33pm
Not to mention the Okri's challenge chests being useless post veteran difficulty. Finish a legendary map to get a 200-260 item, 0% red. New players have it rough.

Kinda the opposite of the old "back in my day" trope. Wanted to try a new weapon pre 6.0? Just craft a few and you'll get a 300 orange. Now, who knows.

The problem is not the long road to level 300 items, but the high cost and time (!) of getting the right perks and traits to them. The level 297 items would be less painful in that case.
That's why the current darktide system and the weaves system are better.

So, you are saying that when you craft you aren't getting 300s even though you are at +35 and higher?

Also, just a FYI for all involved, all of my characters are 35, most are a few levels above, but my highest is Saltz at 35+16

This is one of comment from Community Mod yesterday about crafting

"Need to be level 35+35 (total: 70) on your highest level character for guaranteed 300 item power items.

However, we saw reports of this new system not working for everyone, and we looked into it and found a bug in the logic. Should be fixed for real for real this time tomorrow or so!"

So they really just made it so you have to get double the level on a single character to guarantee crafting 300 items...

At least they added DLC weapons to the chest loot pools and made reds a bit more likely to drop.

I would think the hoarded Commendation Chests were converted to Commendation Chest II like the other Commendation Chests in the inventory but you've to check for yourself.

Yeah, but that means that they go from having a range of 295-300 to 280-300, or something akin to that
