How is Vermintide 2 Getting more content and Darktide is barely getting updates besides patches
you’d think maybe Darktide would be getting a lot of attention instead but they are focusing more on Vermintide 2, don’t get me wrong at least they haven’t abandoned Vermintide 2 but I feel like Fatshark could pay more attention to Darktide and put out more updates for Darktide so they can fix that disaster

I mean, they already got our money for Darktide. Darktide is seen in a pretty bad light.
And you need to do a lot of work for Darktide to make it better than just adding some content to V2 and then release a pack of skins alongside it.
V2 is just seen in a better light, which means people are more likely to spend some money on cosmetics on it.
DT is seen as a mess, people rather not want to spend money on that until (insert reason here). It has improved, but the damage it has done will stick for some time.

Then again, both games have their own team :bbtcat:
Edit: and V2 got a whole 6 patches last year (two of which were major ones, one with the reworks of two classes, the other an extension to a gamemode and rebalancing).

it will need A LOT of work
to businesses if something is going to cost them more than make they will seek out something else &/or do as little as possible to make it float for as long as possible before it finally tanks

Darktide is not salvageable. It's being written off, good riddance.

Their normal way of business has always been:
1. Release the game and see reception.
2. If good do some fast and dirty dlc for mad money.
3. Start the next game and put the current cash cow on life support.
4. Take a whole year to release a few patches for current game with some fire sales.
5. Release next game. Rinse and repeat.

The fact they came back to V2 and started adding more stuff really tells how bad the new game is doing. That it's not worth the massive patches and work. Knowing no one wants to buy stuff let alone be able to develop dlc while the core game is gutted and needs so much work. They know the initial sales have basically already bottomed out and their dlc cow farm ability for it is a long way off. To get any cash flow they have to release stuff in a game that has population and polish that you can throw maps and outfits for quick cash and player retention.

...how many games do you think Fatshark has released exactly?

Not like if we take the tide game we had:
Vermintide 1: 2015 (3 year)
Vermintide 2: 2018 (5 year+)
Darktide: 2022

And even if we look at earlier games:
War of Roses: 2012 (2 year)
War of Viking: 2014 (Server support ended in 2017, at the same time as WoR)

Krater: 2012 (3 years)
Bloodsport Tv: 2015

I think the Darktide disaster has more to do with mismanagement rather than mistakes by the actual devs. Fatshark's management has always been abysmal, from WoM to Darktide.

I wasn't around for WOM, what happened? I thought V2 was smooth sailing and always popular.

Well, check WoM's reviews to get an idea what happened.

Oh wow. Some interesting reading there.

Sound like FS aligned with a (red headed) streamer who took the game in a completely different direction than the community wanted then when the mess was released he abandoned the game and went into hiding not to be seen again until Darktide release.

The mess sounds very similiar in many ways to the Darktide debacle where the community has largely been ignored until the game was on life support and about to die. So maybe they can resurrect Darktide like they did V2.

VT2 release was very similar to the Darktide's one, where the 1st year was spent fixing stuff (Darktide is being faster at it).

When WoM came out it became very impopular due to the Weave being mostly a dead mode that doesn't work like it's supposed to, and the Beastmen which a lot hate because they have more difficult break points.

WOM was a nice update, new difficult, new hero lvl, rebalance classes, most reviewers were crying about nerf OP shade and weaves, yea there were some bug and problem but in general it was a fresh air

Isn't it standard to take longer after initial release to put up more paid DLCs? Otherwise people just think it doesn't require much work and should be included in the initial release.

nobody cryed about OP shade (there is no PVP) and weaves (except it weren't instersting mode)

But all cried about strong AF (and unfairly strong!) beastmen

There's a reasonable explanation for this. Vermintide has tons of assets already created, making it faster to create things for it. Darktide is fresh and still needs assets made, thus a lot of time gets sunk into that.

Vermintide 2 had so much content on release, because it used so many assets from Vermintide 1. All the weapons were the same models, enemies are the same models, etc. Darktide doesn't have that advantage.
