What settings are most important for high FPS?
The game erased my settings which I set like 1000 hours ago.
I remember there were weird option necessities that REALLY lower/raise the game performance depending on what's set.

What specific/general things should I set to get the game back in good performance?

Can't remember the video settings on the top of my head but Anti-Aliasing, shadows, particle effects and fog usually are big fps hogs.

this game is really not that demanding from gpu. So typically if you have good cpu - you dont see much difference. Tweak CPU-related options (there shoudl be a promt in-game) if you hav FPS issues.

SSAO and other ambient occlusion settings eat up a lot of resources, shadows as well. Number of shadow casting lights as well.

Shadows is always very demanding in games so if your graphic card is struggling then turn down shadow settings.

This game is much more CPU taxing than GPU taxing.

If you hover over the video settings, it should tell you the load on CPU vs GPU. Anything that has anything creating a large amount of CPU load, I turn to low or off. Also, turning off your Steam overlay will also help bring up your FPS.

Everything cpu related, Banish it.
Shadows off, particles low or off if possible. Try 1080p if you have 1440p monitor, theres more.
