It's one of the reasons I'm really hesitant to get into Darktide, because as far as I can tell nobody really cares about their characters as... well, characters . It's just 'the zealot' or 'the psyker' or 'the guard' even in the voiced dialogue.
and almost all spoken dialogue between players is how they don't trust the hire ups and wondering if they are corrupt and are willing to kill them if they are.

Technically that would mean Kerillian is the main character, considering she indirectly helped cause the first game's events.
The gameplay seems like it'll be fun after some serious overhauling that should've happened before release but likely won't.
The story, if we can even call it that at the moment, is minimal.
