Wow, this game has incredible number of toxic players
Having waited for a good coop game I was very excited about this game. Unfortunately I ended up quitting the very first weekend due to sheer number of toxic players. Bugs are frustrating but they stem from incompetence, not out of hatred. These toxic players go out of their way to belittle, frustrate or otherwise ruin gaming experience for average players. That is not to say I didn't expect toxic players in this game, all games have their share, but the level of toxic players exceeded general expectations I've become accustomed to in the internet age. There are incredible amount of posts on toxic community in this game. Just some examples:

In any case I started playing again about one month later and the toxicity is definitely there but made much more bearable after encountering good players that I regularly play with. I try to stick with these players as to minimize exposure to toxic environment.

I'm sure many will both agree or disagree with my assessment, but there's definitely no denying that many players complain about the toxicity of this game's community. What I can't figure out is, why this game? What are the qualities of this game that attract these toxic players?

why can't people have just an ounce of respect for another human? why try and make the other person feel horrible? i know people have been through things, but so has everyone.

I mean, I've yet to actually find a non toxic community for any game that I play. It's pretty much people being people, and you have to learn to move past it if you want to get back to enjoying the game.

Any team game with a moderate learning curve will have players who rage against those they perceive (accurately or otherwise) to be ruining their experience. Especially one with loot and no midgame saves. Couple that with the general toxicity that's already present in the male ego and the "courage" provided by anonymity and voila, you've got yourself a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It's a tale as old as time.

Yup, that's what I do. My point is that this game features more toxic players than any other games I've played, except perhaps World of Warcraft, but then maybe not. Abundance of anger, pettiness and general disrespect for players in this game is astounding.

Maybe you're just not a likeable person, or one anyone wants to play with.

The internet.

"This community is toxic" is a very common topic for a co-op game.

Meet a few toxic players out of hundreds of thousands of players out there, and those "community is toxic" threads are created.

So, those threads you listed aren't the proof that the community is actually toxic.
I've seen only 4 or 5 toxic players so far, but other 1000 or so were either nice or nutural.

I agree and disagree with your statement.

For the most part the forums are pretty damn toxic since people think "git gud" means they're part of the 'so random XD 1337 g4m3r kidz club' when they just look like a'holes. In game I'd say most people tend to be pretty chill.

I don't mean your average "git gud" kids. Those players I have no issues with, they are dime a dozen. I mean real toxic players with real display of anger bullying players for no reason.

Funny thing is that I see it the exact opposite way... people using the word "toxic" are leeches that are mad to be called out when the best thing they can do is stick to easier difficulty because in the end no matter how much you sugar coat it they have to learn the basics.

Even if you dont say git gud and actually provide tips you will get called an elitist.

Thats just how it is. Answer in kind by being smug with whatever issue they have with you.

Why are you assuming the gender of toxic players?

I agree that the toxic players have impacted my gameplay so far, and I just started a couple days ago. Though, I don't think most players are toxic, it's just a vocal minority of toxic players that ruin games.

I was very surprised that when I reached veteran difficulty to hear players voicing their frustrations at everyone not knowing the levels in and out and complaining about people not knowing end game strategy or skills... The thing I try to remember is that these type of people tend to have not much else in life they are confident about. So they take the one thing they know better than others and use it to put them down. Makes them feel big or something, I don't know. If you know this game better than others, teach them. Don't use it as a soap box. Whenever they yell at me, I just repeat what they said back to them in their own nasally nerdy voice complete with mouth breathing, and that usually frustrates them enough to shut up.

With all that said, there have been many helpful players that have taken their time to explain this game to me and show me where things are. I am very grateful for them. Each of us has the ability to make this game community better, every game that we play. Do your part, stick up for others and help the noobs. That's all it takes, and they will love you for it.

Quite often it's another player that is being bullied and I often defend them. For example there was one game where 2 players were friends, and refused to give another player heal pot. I didn't need a heal pot but this player wasn't very good so he needed heals more often. This was fine with me, as the game was only Veteran. Other two players called him garbage and refused to give him any heals even when they had full health and had extra pot/kit. Whole time this poor guy kept asking why he was not given extra heal pot and kept asking for heal pot, nicely. I always gave my pot to this other player to help him along. I'm surprised that the player being bullied didn't leave, but because he didn't leave I stayed to help him out. Few times where I was the subject of bullying, which weren't very many, are due to issues so minuscule I was rather surprised. I remember once it was because I picked up an ammo twice in a row. No idea why that was an issue since there were ammo crates fairly often.
