Engineer is a mixed bag. The weapons are both crazy good especially the pistol on ranger but the engineer himself is just not very fun for me (and a bunch of other people from what ive read) due to the crank mechanic that just feels tedious.
Considering the price point - both are easily worth the money tho!
Engineer is... yeah a mixed bag. He's very powerful, Coghammer is a great weapon, Masterwork I'm not a big fan of just because it takes a second before your shot comes out which can be difference between getting grabbed by a Leech or a Gas Rat firing off his bomb, but it does do an absolute insane amount of damage. He's also Ranger-squishy so don't try to tank, dont be out of position, don't get tunnel-visioned with your machine gun and then bashed in the back. His ability bar doesn't really regenerate naturally so you have to press F and then hold R to crank it and stacks can either diminish over time but kept when firing with a talent or stick around with another talent but you have less max stack and lose them when firing. Personally it's a lot of work to be constantly crankin' the dwarf beefstick all the time and it does take awhile for to get it back to full, and you're very vulnerable when crankin it out.
It's really up to you if you want to remember to be pressing F->R every 12.5 seconds. It really is a lot of micro and again you cannot get tunnel-visioned with him, and I see a fair amount of Engineers getting tunnel-visioned and going down all the time.
That said in Chaos Wastes where you get BOTH the talent that makes it stay when firing and never diminish are great and it becomes a lot more forget-about-it.
