Edit: I’m playin around with Bardin’s loadouts right now. I still find pickaxe to be one of the most fun weapons so far.
If I remember correctly RV's temp health talents work better with weapons that stagger or hit multiple targets - 1H hammer, 2H hammer or dual hammers might be better options if you struggle to generate THP.
Kerillian = Waywatcher with Dual swords/Glaive with any bow
Bardin = IronBreaker with Dual hammers/ 2h hammer with shotgun
Sienna = Battlewizard with flail/normal sword with conflag/fireball
Salt = Wttch Hunter Captain with axe+falchion/rapier with dual pistols
That's what i use and works for me fine especially with bots
Saltz: Anything that's not the falcion or flail lol
Sienna:Anything thats not the dagger. Staff wise it really doesnt matter, just be mindful with them and you won't have any salty teammates.
But honestly it really doesnt matter in this game. Yes there are some weapons that are far superior than others but it really just comes down to what you enjoy using.
I mean, thats what it is lol
There are definitely some classes that are better than others where roles overlap.
Yes, all careers work. Yes, anyone that knows what they're doing can run any career and any weapon on any difficulty and kick ass. But no, not all of them are the best. With 15 careers, there are bound to be moments of overlap, some greater than others. And when two classes overlap almost entirely, it's easy for one to be better than another.
Pyromancer is better than Unchained thanks to the crits allowing all weapons to ignore armor (Including ranged attacks, makes fireball staff a monster even against chaos patrols and standard carriers), boosting ranged attacks (By an incredibly significant amount at that), proccing swift slaying more often for consistent attack speed, having a far better and incredibly powerful ult that is capable of chaining to melt patrols or chunk bosses, and having a crit chance of ~50% making even Sienna's worst weapons far more viable. Sure, Unchained can situationally be tankier and does have more raw damage through the power boost, but the raw damage isn't as good as the crit chance even with the number being higher, and the tankiness doesn't matter when any damage that would realistically end a run would overheat Unchained before it would kill the other Sienna classes anyway. Yes, it's more consistent being constantly active, but Pyromancer is significantly better at both melee and ranged 50% of the time, and with better talents. Plus chip damage is lethal against Unchained; a gas rat or gunner is normally a low threat, but against Unchained, they can easily put your ult on cooldown or kill you if it's off cooldown. Friendly fire is also hyper lethal; take one hit on cata, and you're at max overheat. A single hagbane shot to the back right after that and congrats, you're dead even though other squishy classes would have easily lived. This is coming from someone with 400 hours, about 300 of which are on Unchained. I love her, primarily for her visual design and melee-oriented playstyle, but she's not competitive with Sienna's subclasses at all. She takes far more effort to get far less out of her than the others would get, and the other two careers have ranged boosts that allow them to chew through everything the game can throw at you. It doesn't help that Sienna's melee weapons are either good at clearing hordes or good against single target armored enemies, but never both. Unchained is high risk, very minor reward. It doesn't help that she's all about maintaining high heat to deal massive melee damage, but unlike the other careers, her talents are either very rarely beneficial towards this or outright harmful (Venting by blocking attacks? Decreasing overheat generated? Those are harmful for Unchained's damage output if she can properly manage her heat. Frenzied Flame being the only good option in it's row, all of her level 25 and 30 talents being terrible, etc).
Hunstman is better than Waystalker thanks to massive boosts to ranged damage and Kruber's melee weapons generally being either complicated or clunky, but overall more versatile. Huntsman has a higher skill cap, with greater damage output, the ability to easily wipe out elites, specials, bosses, and lords, and the only downside is that his ammo, ult, and general resource management are less forgiving than Waystalker's. Objectively better, but harder to play.
Those are the two most extreme examples I can think of, most other classes have at least something unique to their role, even if other classes overshadow them in some ways. I mainly mention it because Pyromancer completely overshadows Unchained; I love Unchained, but every time I play, I just can't help but feel like she's useless compared to Pyro.
