All classes are viable. Just play them and pick what best fits your playstyle/is most fun. Do you like tanks or ranged careers? Do you prefer to be able to crush hordes or obliterate bosses with insane ult abilities? Once you know what you like you can find build guides in the VT2 Steam workshop or on YouTube (just make sure they are for patch 1.8 or later).

It would make more sense to ask for weapon playstyles - those are fairly consistent across characters.

I recommend the guide section. Theres this guy on youtube named "ThePartyKnife" who has a bunch of his guides posted here. Thats where i would start to look.

Learn to consistently generate temporary hp. Learn stagger mechanics and armor and dodge timings. Youre good to go - ez gaem.

On other note here is my 100% accurate and serious as well as undisputable judgment of every class.

Merc Kruber:
Most boring and most op character in the vanilla playstyle. Literally cant die. Has some of the best melee weapons in the game for legend and below.
Always the guy who tilts super hard and is super toxic and actually plays a lot worse than he thinks he does.

Elf:
Always played by bad players and dead most of the time. Has less hp. Has possibly the best weapons in the game period. Waystalker is great for easily killing specials which is a pretty major reason to wipe.

Dwarf Slayer:
Literally the same as elf but doesnt kill specials.

The other dwarf that isnt ranger:
Extremely good at not dying himself. Melee weapons are not great.

Dwarf Ranger:
Is a bot that someone has set so he gets free ammo drops.

Saltzpyre:
Has possibly the best ranged weapon in the game.
WHC: WHY???
BountyHunter: Kills Monsters at level 30 and above very fast with his ult and good aim.
Zealot: Always heal the zealot first. It will make him very happy and appreciate you as a human being. Very strong melee, same great ranged weapon and very durable. Overall just good at everything but not great at anything unless played extremely thp heavy (white health bar).

Sienna:
Stop burning me Sienna!
Pyromancer: If you always wanted to play Waystalker Kerillian but the ult was too accurate for you Pyro is the class you want to play.
Arguably pretty bad melee weapons. Ranged weapons are imho just plain bad at legend and below. Apparently shes excellent at cata though.
Somehow is a ranged focused character that is worse at killing specials than most melee classes (at legend and below). She can use her staff to set hordes on fire but they never burn because your melees just kill them on legend and below. The same staff (conflag) also staggers in an aoe. But it doesnt stagger anything consistently that you would really want to stagger consistently on legend and below.

This is the definitive guide to all classes and if you disagree with me youre a bad person.

Idk who you've been playing with as elf but all of elf's classes are the best in the hands of a good player (I'm a Kruber main)
Ok so here's a quick overview, each class is unique in it's own way so I invite you to try them out, but you can compile them into 4 categories:

Tank: Foot Knight (Kruber), Zealot (Salt), Ironbreaker (Bardin), Handmaiden (Kerillian), and Unchained (Sienna)

Support: Mercenary (Kruber), Witch Hunter (Salt), Ranger (Bardin)

Melee DPS: Slayer (Bardin), Shade (Kerillian)

Ranged DPS: Huntsman (Kruber), Bounty Hunter (Salt), Waywatcher (Kerillian), Battle Wizard (Sienna), Pyromancer (Sienna)

Keep in mind that each class is more complex than simply being placed into those categories but that's the broad strokes of it

If a Zealot knows what hes doing. You should never heal him unless hes "grey".

Having Natural bond (more temp health, but you regain over time as well) and a temp health on kills skill will make you very hp strong. You almost have to get hit with a instant down to be downed.

If green is low, you do more damage. If you survive with that, you tend to get more temp health, with temp health you can more green over time and in turn lower damage, but if you get damaged again you do more damage and in turn increase chances of getting kills and increasing temp health again. Rinse repeat and if you are very good. You will basically play with full green health all the time and not even need the damage boost.

Tier 1: Waystalker, Zealot, Slayer, Battle Wizard
Tier 2: Handmaiden, Mercenary, Iron Breaker, Witch Hunter
Tier 3: Huntsman, Ranger Veteran, Footknight, Shade
Tier 4: Pyromancer, Unchained.

Base on my experience, rating based on how easy it is to run a map on Legend after playing each class for 20h. Disclaimer: those at tier 1 are considered easy for beginner as well.

Not going to say anything against your tier list, but i will say something against your statement that your tier 1 list is considered easy for beginners.

Beginners lack experience with the mechanics, beginners do not know how to handle situations like horde + specials well. Infact, they dont handle specials well in the first place. Beginners cant handle specials with Slayer. Beginners cant handle stress situations with Battle Wizard, they will usually die from overheating. Beginners are not able to use Zealot to its fullest, basically making it a WHC with no life.

Waystalker is easy for beginners, because she has panic button for killing specials and an effective variety of weapons. Ironbreaker is easy for beginners, because of Gromril Armour. Unchained is easy for beginners, because of her panic button to not only clear overheat, but also for the possibility to gain thp. Same as Merc with his panic button. These are the ones i see fit as careers for beginners.

Zealots With Nat bond make me sad. Having too play around with how much damage you're taking in order too keep green down is just asking for hilarity too ensue.

I use flail and go in with Barkskin and THP on hits. Mass CC, adequate damage too elites with push attack into overheads. If I do go down, either I use medkit on someone else or bite the bullet and heal before setting 6 stack again.

Edit: Having hp on hit also means I'm not competing with the shade/bounty hunter for the elites.

NB is terrible on Zealot, it mess up my hit count badly and because I don’t always take damage, NB always heal me to full. I would recommend using Barkskin like you said.

Well in my opinion you should just choose whatever you like. Even if you like it just visually. The point of the game is to slash enemies and you choose the way to do so.
