the dagger is a bit better at dealing with armor, more mobile but has less defense and is worse in dealing with larger crowds, especially when armor is mixed into the horde.
the dagger is fun, i like it on a melee focused pyro a lot.
So yes, essentialy you trade your CC for dmg output. If you OK with that CC - sure, take dagger, you would enjoy it a lot. But i prefer to have flame sword, as with it i can stun chaos patrols when i cornered, while dagger cant do so, as it does not reach backline to interrupt attacks.
It's not the best weapon in the game, but it's my favorite, So fun to use.
Hate to break it to you, but with how RC functions (ever since the nerf), Swift Slaying is just flat out better. RC is a waste of a trait, even on Pyro, because the forced cooldown + target limit means so many crits go to waste in terms of skill generation. The only scenario in which RC is competitive with SS is when you are soloing a boss or chaos patrol and are reduced to hit and run tactics.
Even Opportunist and Parry are better choices.
