IB is a tank so, do that job better, also you get more thp with shield because it staggers more..
PD: Dont hunt green circles and do your role
IB rarely gets any of them, maybe in dmg taken. His strenght is rather durability than offensive killingpower. Any class can get high in special kills.
All in all it highly depends on your team.
There is no "true" tanking as aggro isn't really fix. So its always a sort of hybrid.
You can only make the scorebord last longer if you make a screen shot.
Imo if compared 2h wins over all. You can kill anything quicker and stagger almost as much. Shields nearly only reasons are beeing able to stagger masses or zerkers and cws.
To thp. If you pick on stagger you do better with the shield due to a bit higher stagger power and lower killing power as any killed foe doesn't count for stagger thp.
Dance and mash LMB for hordes and heavy for anything armored. Really fun and survivable build.
I have fun with 2H hammer and hammer & shield, but I'm worried I'm just useless to the team.
Uhmm.. This game is not Overwatch, or LoL, or Smite maybe i never played those but they seem to have a 100% exact role for every character.
Heros in Vermintide are somehow hybrid, and the scoreboard at the end doesn't tell you how much you have contributed to the team. For example, as an IB, or maybe RV you could have been the last standing for the team and rescued or revived your whole team (happens to me sometimes :p), or you could have killed a monster with low HP alone while your team is downed.. And without having green circles you just clutched and saved the game. So this is not about "the most green circles i get, the most i contributed", there are tons of situations where you could be the hero of the lobby without green circles, and you will notice those moments.
I had a Cata game where I tanked the first boss and did very little while I just danced with him. Later, I pretty much solo'd the Bell event horde and boss while the team did the objective. I got gutter runner'd and died pretty fast after that, but by that time it was just a boss by itself and a few mobs. I didn't have great scores.
An uneducated eye could say I was useless, but I was making it easy for everyone else during the difficult parts.

Very informative!
IB's job is to be a brick that just doesn't go down, while smashing, pushing and bonking things out of everyone else's way. This is important enough that it can basically be a team carry if you are good at it, but it won't show on the stats screen. Just how it is.
Hammer tends to kill things in 1 hit, stagger only makes THP if they survive. Hammer works better with THP on melee kill by targeting elites with the light attacks.
