The order you need to press items described as 'suspicious bricks'. This is indicated by the candles behind the potcullis immediately before the stairs leading to the Oliver's inn (see picture below):

Gate (initially closed)[imgur.com]

It is closed until you press the bricks, but there are ten candles in a wall with only the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 10th lit (counting from the left) as can be seen in the picture below:

Pressing the required bricks opens the portculis. Go through it, turn left and go down the stairs. At the end there will be a rune you're looking for.

And here it is.[imgur.com]

You find bricks one after another by moving through the level. This means that the required bricks are:

2nd: The one behind the crate while looking towards the gate between two towers in the backgrouds. Before you, to the right, there should be stairs leading to the Watch barracks.

4th: The one behind crates in the Hog Pit (to the left of the arch leading to Ranaldstrasse).

5th: The one in the first cellar in short alley right from Ranadstrasse. If you see a large locked gate on the right, you went too far. To find the brick, go to cellar, find the relief of a robed skeleton (Morr), move through the hole in the wall covered by bushes, the brick will be close to the ground, in the corner (this is the room where the Grimoire was hidden in the first game).

7th. On a smaller pillar in Von Jungfreud Platz (the square with a statue). You need to jum on some boxes to the left, then to a beam, then to a roof and then (difficult) to a small stone protrusion round the corner. Go to its end and drop to a smaller one behind it. The brick will be just next to a tome.

10th. In the the Oliver's Inn, Close to the right pillar flanking the bar (you should have a chest to the right, although I'm not sure whether the chest is there on all difficulty levels).

After you press these five bricks (and only these) Olesya will say that 'someething happened'. Now go out the Inn, return down the stairs to the now opened gate and collect the rune.

Aren't they linked to the three runes mentioned in the welcome screen? There are chalenges linked to a map called 'Fortunes of War' and the icon for completing it on Recruit looks like a opened octogonal door, not unlike like something that can be possibly unlocked with dwarven runes. And when you press the button, Olesya sometimes speaks something along the lines 'This is something new' or 'I don't remember this being here'. Seems like a way to unlock a secret level.

Heard this twice, first on HoM near the statue on the square and the second one on EoW, in the ruins after the camp with doomwheels. Big stone with dead horse and skulls near it.

Yes, you need to unlock one rune on each of 3 maps to unlock 4th secret map which is just a survival last stand one.
Really? Again with these stupid buttons?

I expected something more creative from them. I'm really not in the mood for an easter egg hunt, based on just finding things. I had a lot of fun with Trials of the Foolhardy, but if it's just buttons I'm already bored.

Buttons are only on the first map, 2nd one and 3rd one have different gimmicks but it's clearly not buttons.

The last button is in the very start of the level. Right after you load, turn around and go right. The break would be behind the boxes
