Hit level 30, how do I get 300 power items?
I just hit 30 and got a legend chest with 3 tomes, 2 grims etc. It only contained orange gear, but the power level was still roughly 220.
Does it slowly increase the more you play (and if so, does difficulty matter now I'm 30), or is there something else I should be doing?

Every time you open a chest the item level will be slightly higher than the previous chest you opened.

Damn, I've been sat on a ton of unopened challenges, didn't realise opening early would have helped :P
Here's a few more things about loot progression.

Low Level Characters have a tiny or no chance to find orange gear.
Level 30s get a lot more of the rare items and their chance to find whites decreases.

Each new item can be +/- 5 from the previous highest power level you have found. You don't need to OWN the item or wear it, you just have to have found one. The highest power updates every time you get something.

Crafting works exactly the same. You can find items of different rarities, within a +/-5 range of the highest obtained gear.

Ah ok thanks, I assume this the highest power level is per character? So if I hit 300 on my main one, I'll still need to climb up on others after hitting 30?

You will gain +-300 gear for the others too, but you wont be power level 600 because with level 30 you get 300 power (each level times 10), item level is the same for each of your characters.

No, it's total. Not hero-bound.
If you level Sienna to 300 Item Power, your level 1 Kruber is still going to get good items.
That is how characters can be played at level 5 in Champion.

Thanks for the info, I just spent ages redeeming the challenges and have 40 chests so hopefully that'll push me up a bit :P

It actually takes into account the gear you currently have equipped. Chests will give you items close to your current power level. You should equip your items with the highest power level before you open chests.

It does not.
You can DELETE your entire inventory and run around with IP-5 gear that you get by default, you can still craft/find high power items.

Isn't it +10/-10 from the highest level you have seen/crafted? Haven't played much for a few months until recently, and everyone gets 300 ish gear anyway. But it was a variance of +/-10 since beta, last I saw.

Don't know the upper increase limit, but I have 300IP and the lowest I can receive is 295.

I opened those 40 boxes btw, I think it's a counter and not the highest you've seen. I'd get like 255 then go down to 240 in the next one, so I think although the range slowly increases, the actual highest item has no effect.

Frazzle, its +10/-10 not 5, however you are right in everything else which is the important part, the numbers are not.
Malacar Sep 16, 2018 @ 9:16am
It's actually -5/+10 (both for chests and crafting), hence why your average power slowly improves when you open chests or craft items.

You can game the system a little by always crafting items for your lowest power slot.

I was pretty sure it was -5/+10, but I didn't want to mention that because I have been at 300IP for literally months.
Thanks for the info.
