Help With Voice Chat Volume
Hello. I rarely go to forums to ask these kind of questions, but I have fankly been stumped on this one.

Other people's voice chat volume has always been consistently too loud, seemingly irregardless of how I change my voice volume setting. Right now I have voice volume at 1 with master volume at 30. At this volume in game npc voices are a little lower than I want them and player voice tends to still be uncomforably loud, to the point where I just end up disabling voice chat all together.

I have tried messing with steam's input and output voice gain controls but have not noticed a difference.

Unfortunately I have a pretty small sample size to work with, for all I know it just so happens the majority of cases people have had insanely loud microphones, and in alot of cases I have had it so quiet for most people I just can't hear then. I'm not sure if this qualifies as a bug to report, but I was hoping someone knew of what the cause might be, or if they shared simmilar experiences. Thank you for your time.

A lot of people have this problem including me. Does the in game voice volume slider work at all? If it does, turn it down as much as you can, and crank the other volume settings, then use windows volume mixer and turn down the game in there.

That said, in my opinion, I think that most of the problem is people who have their mic settings too high in windows. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's related to the "mic boost" setting.

My biggest issue with the sound balance is that vermintide only has 3 sliders: Overall, Music, and Voice Chat. Voice chat is as low as it can go but I can't lower overall any lower (or windows volume mixer) without also lowering the npc chatter (which I like but wouldn't be a huge loss); more importantly I can't lower my sound without lowering sound effects, which means I would be missing important sound queues.

It is good to know that other people have had simmilar problems, and you are right it could be individual players who are too loud and not the game. It sounds like vermintide might need some form of normalization between the loud and quiet players if it doesn't already have that.

Just to be sure, voice slider is as low as it can go and overall/music sliders are maxed?

Overall is at 30% while voice volume is at 1%.

At this level it is still hit or miss whether or not I am deafened by someone's voice and in npc chatter is a lttile too quiet.

Try putting overall at 100% then use the windows volume mixer to turn the game down.

My logic being that even at 1% the VOIP is still loud no matter the settings in game. So if you turn up the overall in game to a point that you can hear the NPC over the VOIP, you will essentially be using the windows volume mixer to turn down the VOIP, while keeping the NPCs loud enough for you. I may be explaining this badly. Basically use WVM as the VOIP volume slider and adjust the overall in game volume to your liking to balance it out.

This is weird, for me it's the other way around. Most people are too quiet to hear and I can't do anything about it. I don't think I've ever experienced anyone talking too loud. Also, people often say that I'm too quiet for them to hear, even though I use 3rd party software to boost my mic volume. (Without this software, I'm too quiet for everyone.)

Voice chat in this game could use some improvements.

Sometimes these people talk at moments when during combat and cannot go through and Mute them but I have to mute my volume via button on my keyboard and one time I got hooked by packrat because I couldn't hear him because the guy was just too damn loud and muted my volume.

Then the problem of muting a player that might have vital information. I'd rather just leave the map which I've done multiple times.

I've seen it speculated that in game voice is based on steam voice volume settings, which would explain why there are widely different issues with it, although I had no luck messing with input and output volume through steam.

+1

Changing the steam volume settings worked for me a couple months ago. I had the problem of everyone was super quiet and I had the steam volume set to single digits.

I realize it might not be super helpful if it's not working for you, but it might be a combination of settings.
