The bow is most useful for boss DPS. A secondary use is horde crowd control and special killing as a last resort.

For bosses:

1) Use barrage and run +10% monster damage on bow and charm
2) Shoot 5 charged shots to build barrage stacks
3) Throw bomb with +20% damage perk
4) Strength potion
5) Poop on boss by continuing to shoot charged shots into it

Mostly boss, when getting overwhelmed by horde, break up the density or just to soften them up shoot of few charged shots. It’s okay for specials but mostly it’s a boss killer and o ♥♥♥♥ scenarios.

When I was having trouble with SV patrols also rolled full Skaven / Armored and could 2-3 shot SV and practically solo patrol.

Against bosses:
What iddqd said.

Against hordes:
Don't be that guy that unloads into the front rows, it's not fun for your allies. It might not do a lot of damage but the constant dot hit indication causes chaos amongst your party. Only shoot at hordes if your allies are not around or jump and shoot at the back of the horde to soften them up for the melees to easily slay them.

Against specials:
Idealy other characters kill off specials, as there are better ranged weapons for the job. That doesn't mean it's useless, it just takes longer and more ammo.

Against elites:
Armored or not I'd advice you to not waste ammo against them. Unsheath your glaive/dds/etc. and deal with them in melee or let your allies snipe them

I'd save your ammo for bosses with the occasional 2-3 arrows into the backline of a horde. Hagbane is not meant (imho) for specials/elites killing. On higher difficulties other players seem to know this. Might want to remind your allies on lower difficulties that you won't be sniping those.

You can apply multiple DoTs and they benefit from barrage. Using the finger roll technique allows you to do a ton of damage and usually loose about 4-5 arrows into a horde before it gets close enough for the splash to hit allies.

you 3 shot sv's anyway.

yes, the damage stacks. its pretty much just shoot all the specials 3 times to make them die.

If your allies have already engaged a horde in melee, do the 'hop shot' as necessary to clear the FF zone and shoot the enemies' deep ranks.

If done properly, you will cause no FF and will also cull the oncoming horde to below your allies' cleave mass. Long story short, this ensures that they effectively cannot be hit by the oncoming enemies, as they are pre-emptively thinned.

If you're in front position in a corridor on the other hand, tell your allies to leave you the F alone and just kill the horde yourself lol. Hagbane is stupid that way.
