What does "sanctioned" mean for a mod?
My google-fu is failing me here. I can't find out what it means for a mod to be sanctioned. I've been waiting for a specific mod to release before picking up V2, and it's not sanctioned, but I don't know what that means as far as how it affects me. I just want to make sure I can get the game and play co-op with my friends with no limitations while using the mod(s) I want.

It means "Officially approved"
SOME mods will go through a testing phase and be allowed in the official realm, where you can use them during normal gameplay.

This is likely only convenience mods, perhaps damage numbers, different UI, possibly simple functions like block-while-typing. I don't know, just a few assumptions here.

Other mods will only be allowed in the modded realm, those that heavily influence the gameplay, like spawning, teleporting, bla bla.

What is the "modded realm"? What does that imply?

Also thanks for the quick response :)
You can select which realm you play on in the Launcher.

Official Realm: No mods allowed, normal progression.
Modded Realm: Select which mods you want to run (from the Steam Workshop), on/off as you please. No loot, no XP, no weapon rerolling.

Oh so the game is basically unplayable progression wise with unsanctioned mods. Got it. Glad I asked. I guess I'll keep waiting. Thanks :)

Wait I see zero sanctioned mods yet on the workshop... So none are sanctioned at this time???
There currently are no sanctioned mods yet.

I am not entirely sure why. Perhaps they are still unsure how to implement them. Perhaps they need to change the game a little bit so it can handle people with mods + people without mods playing together without issues.
Just some guessing here, I don't know what is going on.

So, sadly I can't even give an estimate on how long it is going to take for the first ones to arrive.

The game has two states, Official Realm where no mods (except approved ones, eventually) are allowed and the game gives XP and loot as usual; the Modded Realm gives no XP and loot, but anything goes as far as mods are concerned.

There's no way they'll whitelist third person view.

They said in a stream a bit ago that they will start sanctioning sometimes in the summer 2018, but yeah there was still a few things in the backend that needed to be updated for the sanctioning of mods to work

Sanctioning mods meaning they have to play them thorugh to see if the programmer build in cheats (knowingly or not) and if the mod will affect balance.

This leads to multiple things:
- there won't be any mod that affects game balance (third view e.g.)
- it will take a lot of time until they do that
- most likely just low priority

I'm not being a smartass just wondering, why do they care? As was noted above Modded Realm means--No loot, no XP, no weapon rerolling, no progression. So what if the game is unbalanced or a free for all on the Modded realms?

That's because the sanctioned mods aren't meant for the modded realm (everything goes there) they are for the official one.

Basically mods that you are allowed to use by FS while getting the normal progression.
