If you want to understand this fully. you have to dive into more then just the games.
You'll need mountains of warhammer lore.

Thankfully my group has a warhammer fanatic that squeeeees with joy at everything and has to explain it all during the mission.

The game has a "hard save" system where you can ONLY play as the character you played as in the first due to all the HARD choices you make in the first, it's all very story dependent and you would obviously not be allowed in without a character
