you can get the talent that increases backstab to 100%, get dual daggers and just melt bosses when hitting from behind.
you can get increased dodge range and move speed and take spear and be like handmaiden except for the special ability (to oneshot chaos warrior from behind, or just to escape defensively, e.g)
you can get the volley crossbow, 25 talent that you stay invisible while shooting during special ability, and kill bosses really quick that way
lots of things, they're all good
So, knowing that she's kinda weak, highly recommend spear. Talents for me are 2-1-3-2-3. Could also take 2 in the last tier. Utilizing her as a mostly-ranged character works well, especially with the ammo return.
Going back to broken Infiltrate, I tend to use it most to get behind a Chaos Warrior or pack of Stormvermin and swing at their backs. You'll usually kill a few SV and can reliably kill the Chaos Warrior. Tooltip doesn't say it, but it appears Infiltrate gives a big damage boost when you hit out of it.
I wouldn't play as Shade before hitting level 25 so you can get all the talents, but what I would do is stack as much critical hit chance as I can and attack speed.
Since all critical hit backstabs can insta kill man sized enemies critical hit chance is the way to go to take full advantage of the passive talent. And if you stack attack speed and use dual daggers (really fast attacks by default) you can proc those critical hits quicker. One vital talent for Shade would be the ''critical hits grant temporary health''. Would help survivability against anything, even bosses.
But this is just my theory crafting for her so far. I'm planning to make myself a build for the Shade in few days or so.
I tried doing the spear build on her and it didnt feel as good. I felt it was better to just give her a heavy melee weapon instead, seemed like she did more damage with a two handed sword or that axe thingy.
Honestly, I dont know what I am doing wrong with her. I really really like her, and want to make her useful and stuff.
Beyond boss killing (that spear is also horrible at) Shade is great at skirting the side of the horde slashing away. Every elf weapon is better at this than spear, every single one.
I agree the spear should only be used on Handmaiden, its designed to work like a shield, its push block radius is 180 and if you take the talents for 30% range your block/push angle goes behind you and if you stack the same stat on gear you can block/push a full 360 around you.
If you stand ontop of alies the stamina regen for everybody from the aura make you all immortal vs a horde so i feel Handmaiden may really help in higher difficulties with a shield user on your team.
Health on crit is not that useful if you basically kill everything in 1 hit anyway. Selecting it just for a boss isn't worth it especially since you SHOULD be using charged attack spam, lowering your speed (therefore number of total crits) but upping your dps. Generally, most of the damage you take in a game is during hordes, so that's when you should be mitigating it.
