Item and ping hotkeys

I'm getting pretty tired of reaching all the way to T to ping something and to quickly pull out a potion/bomb/heal is also pretty awkward. Any suggestions?

EDIT: I had ping changed to F in the first game and it was fast/comfortable. but now thats not an option obviously.

Obviously yes that would be an answer, but often times when you're stuck in a horde you need to quickly pull something out. Most often using your wheel is not very efficiant. There is also a good chance to mess up and get a different item.

Do you have any additional buttons on your mouse by any chance? I use one on the left, of a total of 4 side-buttons.
There is also Q, if you don't switch weapons that way a lot.

Any buttons below ASD, depending on the type of keyboard you have.

Actually yes, I do have 2 side buttons on my mouse. Excellent suggestions, thanks Frazzeldragon.

i reccomend you never use scroll wheel in any game to switch weapons as it can easily ♥♥♥♥ you up when you accidently scroll just a little too good and get the wrong item. i prefer scrol as target so i can easily spam it in a horde to find specials in the back line being sneaky. but as the other guy said side buttons on your mouse are good as well

i use "f" to ping and middle mouse button for ulti. pretty comfortable. if you have isuues with weapon switch with wheel - there is option to disable it totally

I use scroll up to select melee, scroll down select range and wheel click select grenade.
I do have 4 more mouse buttons for other options so that usage of the wheel may not be optimal for everyone.
"ping" is on one of those buttons, a small one just to the left of main left mouse, I'm also experimenting with a macro for that button to have it register every 1/10 second ten times so it's easier in the midst of a horde to find those #$@% hookers

In my case i have a macro button which i switch on and of for pinging. It tries to ping around 10 times a second and is very usefull with WHC as bot or player.

I luckly have two extra buttons on my mouse, so I just mapped the ping on the front button and special-attack (waystalker zoom/rapier pistol) on the back button.
I put the social wheel on my mouse-wheel (pressing it, I think the key is called "mouse 3")

If I wouldnt have these buttons I'd put the ping on my mouse-wheel (key = "mouse 3") or on E since its pretty close and the special-attack on the other button.
The social wheel I'd put maybe on R so its somewhat close to call out patrols and for help.

I ping with T and I never had this problem, but it is also true that I do not have sausage fingers.

I can appreciate your enthusiasm to provide another suggestion, but Strix likely doesn't need advice on this topic three years later. If you want to create a new topic to discuss variant control schemes, that's cool though. It's interesting to read what configurations different players come up with.
